  • When did Bill Kristol become a Democrat?
    Kristol has been moving left at least since Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential campaign. CRC’s Hayden Ludwig follows the money trail and finds that, as of 2018, Kristol has been backed by a nonprofit connected to a massive network of left-wing groups funding the anti-Trump “Resistance.” At the top of this network of left-wing “dark money” is Arabella Advisors.   • How to stay out of prison in Las Vegas
    Hope for Prisoners, a Las Vegas nonprofit, has helped more than 3,000 former inmates reintegrate back into society and lead productive lives. It seems to have found a private-sector solution to recidivism, a seemingly intractable social problem—something that millions of dollars in government funding has struggled to achieve. CRC’s Robert Stilson explains here.
  • What big mistakes are conservative donors making?
    Matthew Peterson, vice president of education at the Claremont Institute, has lobbed a barrage of tweets about the problems of the conservative donor class. He argues that many conservative grantmakers “are giving to people & institutions who are not only proven losers” but also have “no . . . clue what is going on now politically or culturally.” Read the report by CRC’s Michael Hartmann here.
  • Who funds trials of experimental abortion drugs in poor countries?
    The short answer is American philanthropists, leftist “dark money,” and the U.S. taxpayer. CRC’s Hayden Ludwig reports that Gynuity Health Projects, based in New York, is behind these drug trials in poor countries, including Burkina Faso, Armenia, Moldova, Nepal, and Uzbekistan. In 2012, the Obama administration’s Department of Health and Human Services awarded Gynuity a six-figure federal grant specifically to research an abortion drug. Read more here.
