Friend,
On Giving Tuesday, we won’t need Facebook if we have real friends and supporters like you.
Backstory: One day in 2020 — out of the blue and without explanation — the number of visitors to Common Dreams from Facebook suddenly fell off a cliff.
It didn’t take long to figure out what happened. Facebook had changed its algorithm to suppress Common Dreams and other similar outlets. This made it nearly impossible for even our most loyal readers to see our posts in their feeds — and even harder for our content to find new readers.
This was a crushing blow. As one publisher told CNN: “Facebook nuked everyone’s traffic.”
Since then, we’ve seen countless news outlets lay off staff and many others, like Jezebel and BuzzFeed News, go out of business entirely.
Despite the obstacles and attacks by corporate forces, Common Dreams has survived for one reason and one reason only: support from loyal and supportive readers who know that we play a key role in the fight for the common good.
This Giving Tuesday, we’ve set a critical goal of raising $15,000 to help fund our nonprofit newsroom through the rest of the year. Will you make a Giving Tuesday donation to help keep Common Dreams alive and strong?
