The stakes here are huge. Drilling in the Arctic Refuge will utterly destroy land that is sacred to the Gwich'in people, who have lived there for thousands of years. It will also destroy the habitats of endangered species like polar bears and caribou ? and threaten as many as 69 bird species that live in the area.

It will almost certainly cause oil spills, contaminating the land and water and costing millions of dollars. The damage will be impossible to undo.

We can't afford to lose this fight. The Trump administration didn't even attempt a science-based evaluation of this plan ? they actually asserted that "there is not a climate crisis" in the environmental impact statement on drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
