Ask the Board of Supervisors to pass Mayor Breed's housing bill and keep the city eligible for hundreds of millions of dollars in affordable housing grants

Tell the SF Board of Supervisors to pass Mayor Breed's housing reform bill to help build 82,000 new homes

Last month, California's state housing department published the Housing Policy and Practice Review. This report showed that it takes San Francisco an average of over 500 days to approve housing projects and directed city officials to take specific actions to fix it by Thanksgiving. We just missed that deadline and time is running out. This is extremely worrying. The state has given the Board of Supervisors a grace period to pass Mayor Breed's Constraints Reduction Ordinance by Christmas.

San Francisco's eligibility for affordable housing grant money depends on its compliance. However, we have learned that NIMBYs are desperate, and they are scrambling to oppose this bill, potentially jeopardizing the futures of families who need affordable housing. SF YIMBY members are mobilizing to keep this from happening, and we need you to help us.

Please send a pre-written letter to fight back. It will only take two minutes to send a letter, and the Board of Supervisors needs to hear from you. Tell our elected officials to act on the housing plan they passed in January. Your voice is needed to tell elected officials to do the right thing for San Francisco.

Can you also give public comment in person? Monday's land use committee hearing begins at 1:30 PM PST at City Hall, Room 250. We expect the hearing for the Constraints Reduction Ordinance to start sometime after 2:30 PM. Use this link to RSVP for public comment. The opposition will be fierce. Use your voice to show that San Francisco wants change.

California asked San Francisco to change its housing policies—what comes next?

Last month, California published a review of San Francisco's housing policies and practices. Now the city has to take action. Sonja Trauss will moderate a candid conversation with a panel of experts about what the report means, what happens next, and how you can get involved.

THE PANEL

David Zisser, Asst. Deputy Director, California Department of Housing & Community Development
Moira O'Neill, Senior Research Fellow, Center for Law, Energy & the Environment at Berkeley Law
Robert Fruchtman, Volunteer Lead, San Francisco YIMBY

Sonja Trauss, Executive Director, Yes In My Back Yard

THE DISCUSSION

This session is designed for activists who want to hold the city accountable, as well as developers and their teams who want to understand what changes to city policies affect them. The panel will cover the following:

  • Guidance on which actions have the most immediate and sweeping impacts on zoning, entitlements, and permitting
  • An insider’s perspective on what happens if the city does not meet state-scheduled deadlines
  • What this report means for other California cities
