Survival Sunday: November 26, 2023

Happy weekend, friends!

Survival Sunday is a personal note and a round-up of the week's news
and resources for folks who are interested in being prepared. This
curated collection of information is only available to email and Patreon
subscribers.

A PERSONAL NOTE

 

We all launched into the holiday season this week with the arrival of
Thanksgiving. I don't know if it's just me, but it felt really different
this year.

Things are tight for my family, but for once I wasn't beating myself up
for not doing...*something*... to fix it. That's because I realized that
it's largely unfixable. This is our situation for the next little while.

But...and bear with me here.

1) It's the situation for many. The government may be trying to cover it
up and lie to us saying, "What inflation?" But it doesn't take a high
level of awareness to see that there's plenty of inflation and many of
us are not keeping pace with that in earnings. So we can look at it as
either, "misery loves company" or "we're not alone in this" and what we
choose is how we'll proceed. I opt for the second.

2) There's still so much we do have. We were able to have a nice dinner
(albeit a non-traditional one) that was only a little bit splurgy. It
didn't take out my entire grocery budget for a month, or even a week,
because I selected carefully based on what was on sale or in my pantry.
I have a cozy home, a family filled with love and acceptance, and a
cuddly cat (at least when she's hungry).

3) We will get through this. It's a different situation for sure, than
ones in the past, but with it being so widespread, I think we can expect
blanket changes to peoples' expectations and attitudes. Humanity has
survived way worse than this. We are built to survive. I've written this
before, but always remember that you are the result of centuries and
eons of natural selection. You come from a long, long line of survivors.

With an attitude of creativity, thankfulness, and determination, we will
get through whatever life is throwing at us next. And  preppers are
made of resilient stuff.
