Doctor Who 60: show has always tapped into political issues but never more so than in the 1970s Doctor Who hit television screens at a key period in British television history. It launched on Saturday November 23, 1963, at 5.15pm, being somewhat overshadowed by the assassination of US president John F. Kennedy the previous day.
Set firmly within the BBC’s public service broadcasting ethos of informing, educating and entertaining, Doctor Who quickly became a mainstay of Saturday-evening viewing. By 1965, it was drawing in around 10 million viewers.

WorkLiz Phair And Blondshell Ignite Sparks At Sold-Out New York City Show As earlier mentioned, one of the many indie rock artists whose music bears Phair\'s imprint is Blondshell, the stage moniker of singer Sabrina Teitelbaum, who opened the show. Earlier this year, the Los Angeles-based musician released her self-titled debut album to critical acclaim; Rolling Stone proclaimed her in a headline to be the “rage of this year.” Under the indie rock umbrella, Blondshell\'s music incorporates traces of grunge, post-punk, shoegaze, metal and even pop (in a Billboard interview, Teitelbaum professed that she is a fan of Miley Cyrus). The music from the Blondshell album is pretty intense, but in the confines of Kings Theatre, it sounded even more harder-edged and explosive—case in point was when Teitelbaum and her tight-knit band kicked off with “Veronica Mars” (a reference to the popular Kristen Bell-led TV show from the 2000s), and proceeded to play a majority of the songs from the debut LP. The electrifying performances by the band complemented Teitelbaum\'s introspective and feminist-minded lyrics: from the topic of anger in “Sepsis” to her “wanting to be seen as an entire person” in “Kiss City.” For her part, Teitelbaum projected a charisma that was also down-to-earth in her performance. Her nearly 40-minute set was the perfect warmup for Phair and provided a taste of more promising things to come in Blondshell’s career. WorkWorkMeet The Man With Your Scotch Whisky Dream Job EM: “I love agave spirits; anything with a lot of character like mezcal and bacanora offer the same huge spectrum of flavors and mouthfeels that we see in scotch. WorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkWorkCritics of Napoleon epic have fallen for emperor's fibs, says film's military expert Most crucial, though, was that the extras were not caught laughing or smiling. "If Ridley had seen anyone smile, we would have to start again. I told them to imagine the other side wanted to kill them and that, if they didn't do as they were told, a sergeant with a long pike would kill them for deserting. The troops also had to walk towards the enemy until ordered to run, and then keep going, even if the guy in front fell," he added. WorkHope for some families of freed Israeli hostages, while harrowing uncertainty continues for others Those who had family members abducted were, she said, consumed with the effort of trying to lobby for their release, and she said that if nothing else, she hoped countries like Qatar or Iran, which are close to Hamas, might persuade the group to allow access. It was not, she added, a question of politics or “if the war is good or not, if you love Israel, or you don’t. The only issue is to be human. The issue of hostages, it’s an issue of humanitarian aid, and not political.” WorkHair, makeup and hopefully a sister back home: Palestinians await prisoner release After chaotic scenes on Friday night, only one person was allowed to pick up each released detainee. Little boys carrying toy pistols and rifles ran around on the street outside. WorkHamas says it will delay next hostage releases over Gaza aid dispute Osama Hamdan, a Hamas representative in Lebanon, told the Lebanon-based Al Mayadeen TV channel that the suspension was due to violations of the truce committed by Israel “linked to aid (entering Gaza), in addition to shootings and the rising death toll … Some of (these violations) happened yesterday, and repeated today,” Hamdan said.
