Hey there, happy Saturday! I wanted to share with you some updates and highlights from the past month in Congress. Because while Congress achieving the bare minimum — funding the government — is what made headlines (along with my Republican colleagues literally throwing elbows), the fact is, I’m in this fight to make real progress, not just keep the light on. So here are three quick updates about what I’ve been working on the last few weeks: 1) I introduced the SAVE Act, a bipartisan bill that expands access to over-the-counter naloxone, including Narcan. This drug can save the life of a person experiencing an opioid overdose. In fact, nearly half of all fatal overdoses had at least one opportunity for a bystander to intervene. With expanded naloxone access, bystanders will be able to reverse opioid overdoses and save lives. 2) I introduced the bipartisan Defend Our Networks Act, a bill that will protect Americans’ privacy and national security by replacing Chinese-made communications equipment with secure systems. I believe that defending our technological infrastructure is critical to our national interest, and I’m proud to introduce a bill that will protect Americans, our infrastructure, and our privacy. 3) I was thrilled to announce a new grant awarded to improve road safety in the Pikes Peak Region. This funding will allow local officials to identify roadway safety concerns and invest in safety improvements to prevent serious injuries and fatal crashes.
