New polling shows that a strong majority of voters nationwide (68%) support having a publicly owned utility as their local utility provider.
The backing for a publicly owned utility system transcends political affiliations. It’s supported by 77% of Democrats, 66% of Independents, and 67% of Republicans.
We are calling on our members of Congress to heed the call of a vast majority of Americans and work towards a transition to public utilities.
Public utilities have the potential to prioritize the needs of the communities they serve over profit margins. They can offer locals a direct say in decisions around energy policies, enabling local control of utility rates, financing, and energy sources.
Public utilities are a matter of economic justice and climate justice.
