Growing up, I was taught the value of hard work and that success is to be measured not by how much you earn, but by how much is shared with the people and communities that make your success possible.
From bussing tables and starting my own small business as a teenager to leading one of Minnesota's most well-known companies, I understand the many challenges of running a business and making payroll.
Smart business policy is both pro-business and pro-worker. That’s why as a member of the Small Business Committee in Congress, I advocate for policies that grow the economy by reducing red tape, investing in people, rewarding innovation and sharing in success.
While serving in Congress on the Small Business Committee, I launched an "On the Job" initiative, rolled up my sleeves, and worked various positions at local businesses to better understand their needs. From coffee shops to childcare centers to hair salons to pizzerias to a green packaging facility, I had the opportunity to learn the challenges small business owners face and see their impact on their communities.
