John,
Fossil fuel fracking is a toxic business: ravaged landscapes, dead wildlife, poisoned water, and diseased communities. Nothing good comes out of it.
Yet a brand new report has exposed that the central bank of Switzerland – one of the world’s richest countries – is pouring over $9 billion into fracking companies! If we want to stop this toxic industry, we need to cut off its money supply.
And this time, the pressure is coming from within: shareholders are taking action and asking the Ekō community to add international pressure on the bank - a first for this secretive financial giant! In days, a group of bank shareholders will deliver our names in person at the bank’s headquarters – John, will you join in?
Tell the Swiss National Bank: end investment in fracking
While the vast majority of Swiss provinces and people are strongly opposed to fracking, the Swiss National Bank (SNB) pretends that its investments are aligned with Swiss values. The SNB has kept its dirty investments under the radar for too long and this report is making waves.
Climate chaos is at the SNB’s doorstep, it can’t ignore it any longer. A recent study highlighted the ‘dramatic acceleration’ in the melting of Swiss glaciers.
Because of the huge amount of methane it leaks into our atmosphere, fracking is a major contributor to climate chaos globally. Adding insult to injury, a single fracking well can use 9 million liters – the equivalent of 16 olympic swimming pools – of water, while chemical spills and leaks contaminate the water. Children living near fracking wells are 2-3 times more likely to contract a form of childhood leukemia.
The Swiss National Bank is one of the world’s biggest investors in fracking. Getting the SNB to withdraw its investments will be a major blow to this destructive industry. We need as many people as possible to increase the pressure now and join the shareholders bringing our demands straight to the bank's headquarters. John, add your name before it’s too late:
Click to say: Swiss National Bank, end fracking investment!
Our powerful community is not afraid to hold the biggest financial institutions accountable. For over 2 years, 175,000 of us campaigned to stop the European Central Bank (ECB) from using billions of euros of public money to finance Europe's biggest polluters and forced it to develop a plan to divest from fossil fuels.
John, together, we can strike a decisive blow to the destructive fracking industry and protect our planet - let’s not miss this chance.
