PROGRAM UPDATES:
Thanksgiving Day Laborer Outreach

We are extremely grateful for our group of volunteers yesterday who helped us distribute tamales, pie, snacks, water, know your rights cards, and so much love to the day laborer community! We cannot thank you all enough for your generous donations and helping make this event possible. We appreciate those who took the time to spend the Thanksgiving holiday giving back to migrant communities. It is important to us to remain a resource for day laborers, and show our appreciation for their hard work.

If you missed this volunteer opportunity, be sure to stay on the lookout for our upcoming Volunteer Event Calendar and check out the dates for our next Day Laborer Outreach, Water Drop and Caravan of Love.

Water Drop

Last weekend we set out once more for our monthly water drop! We are so grateful to our volunteers, as Saturday was a long and tiresome day, we replenished some sites and dropped water, hand warmers, socks, and other life-saving supplies for the harsh desert winter.

With the continued humanitarian crisis in Jacumba, we also delivered dozens of jackets, blankets, long underwear, and more to assist the migrants and refugees still stuck in the encampments with no shelter or resources.

We are committed to assisting our migrant siblings, as well as ensuring our volunteers do so in the safest way possible.
If you missed our November Volunteer Water Drop, stay on the lookout , our December volunteer events will be provided soon!

You can volunteer for our next water drop by emailing [email protected] and donate to our Water Drop program here ([link removed]) . ([link removed])

News Spotlight:

Border Patrol sending migrants to unofficial camps in California's desert, locals say
On a chilly autumn morning in the California desert, on the side of a highway, two young men are asking for help.

They tell NPR they are from Turkey. They crossed the U.S.-Mexico border a few minutes ago, with about 18 other people.

They're exhausted.

And then they ask for something unusual, given the circumstances.

"Please. Call border patrol."

Almost as soon as they say it, Border Patrol rolls up and takes them.

As strange as it sounds, this is what they want. They have been told that if they cross over and turn themselves over to Border Patrol, they are taking the first step toward getting a visa or a better chance at asylum in the United States.

Growing Numbers of Chinese Migrants Are Crossing the Southern Border
The surge of migrants entering the United States across the southern border increasingly includes people from a surprising place: China.

Despite the distances involved and the difficulties of the journey, more than 24,000 Chinese citizens have been apprehended crossing into the United States from Mexico in the past year. That is more than in the preceding 10 years combined, according to government data.

They typically fly into Ecuador, where they do not need a visa. Then, like hundreds of thousands of other migrants from Central and South America and more distant locations, they pay smugglers to guide their travel through the dangerous jungle between Colombia and Panama en route to the United States. Once there, they turn themselves in to border officials and many seek asylum.

And most succeed, in turn fueling further attempts. Chinese citizens are more successful than people from other countries with their asylum claims in immigration court. And those who are not end up staying anyway because China usually will not take them back.
