This would harm workers and retirees [link removed]   CALL THE PRESIDENT & YOUR LEGISLATORS to Stop this Dangerous Idea!     Dear&nbsp;John,

BREAKING NOW: President Trump is aggressively pushing Congress for a temporary Social Security payroll tax cut in order to stimulate the economy amidst the coronavirus epidemic. A payroll tax cut is a dangerous idea! [link removed] While it may provide a few extra dollars for workers in the short-term, it would rob Social Security of much-needed revenue for the future. Workers' payroll deductions are meant for one thing only: to fund their retirement, disability and survivor benefits. So a payroll tax cut would HURT the very people it's intended to help the most!

That's why we need to make <em>our</em> views heard today!</strong> <em>Please pick up your phone right now and call the National Committee's toll-free Legislative Hotline at <strong>(800) 998-0180.</strong> The Hotline will connect you directly with the White House and your members of Congress. <strong>Please tell them: "Hands Off Social Security. NO Dangerous Payroll Tax Cut!"</strong></em></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></div>
On Tuesday, the president tweeted that it would be "great" for the "middle class" and the "USA" to temporarily cut payroll taxes — which means reducing the revenue flowing into the Social Security trust funds. Today, more than 40% of seniors rely on Social Security for all or most of their income. And economic forecasts tell us that tomorrow's retirees will rely on their Social Security benefits even more than today's seniors do. So any reduction in Social Security's revenue stream at a time when this program is facing serious fiscal challenges would be a colossally bad idea!   President Trump appears determined to ram this through in the immediate days ahead, so we need you to act right now! Call the White House and your members of Congress through our hotline at (800) 998-0180 and tell them to reject the payroll tax cut! This is a huge threat to Social Security's future and we need every National Committee member and supporter to ensure their voices are heard at the highest levels of government! And please also consider supporting this must-win battle by making a donation in any amount. [link removed] Sincerely, Max Richtman
President & CEO
