Kansas State Representative,

Candidate for

Kansas Senate

Per Aspera Adhuc Grati

The Kansas Stage Motto has long been the Latin phrase “Ad Aspera Per Aspera,” to the stars through difficulties. Though I adore the phrase, during these last several months I have learned through all the difficulties we face, we must remain thankful for what we still have. Now, during this time of Thanksgiving, for me the phrase that best fits what I hope my actions reflect is “Per Aspera Adhuc Grati,” through difficulties, still thankful.

We cannot change our circumstances, we cannot change the past. Life will not always bring us pleasure and prosperity. We, however, can control how we go about our lives, and how we choose to use what God has given us for His glory. Our circumstances do not and should not control us.

I want to take a minute to share a few things I am thankful for. Before I do, please read this and think about what you have gone through, what you are going through, and remember “Per Aspera Adhuc Grati,” through difficulties still thankful. I pray everyone has a chance this season to reflect on how through the difficult situations life sends us, we remain thankful for all we still have.

I am thankful for God the father. While I don’t know always know the why, I have found if I remain faithful, His will reveals itself in time, and not my time. He will use all of us to be an example to others in some way, and it’s exciting to think one day I will hopefully make a difference in someone’s life through my testimony. So will you friends!

I am thankful for my family. My whole family. My wife is the most amazing woman, and the fact she has stuck with me for over 21 years now is mind-blowing. We have 5 amazing kids, a roof over our heads, food on our table, and though we have not always had an easy ride, we are still thankful. My parents have had my back my whole life, and continue to be part of the rock-solid foundation that keeps me grounded and humble.

I am thankful for my friends, who I also consider family. I love my friends and am grateful for all those in my life who play such an essential role in our life. Tell your friends you love them often just as you do your family!

I am thankful for music. Many of you know we spent 4 years in Nashville, TN. We met some amazing people, played some amazing places, and though we do not have our mansion in the mountains on the outskirts of town near the other stars, we are thankful for our time in Tennessee, and are thankful for the friendships made, and the fact we are able to still enjoy music.

I am thankful for our church. Lenexa Baptist has been such a blessing to our family. The choir, the pastor, the friends made, we are truly blessed to be a part of such an amazing church family.

I am thankful for the ability to serve our state in the House of Representatives. This has been a great honor being one of about 6,000 in our state’s history to serve in the legislature. I was so unsure at first why we got there, and why education was where the speaker felt I would be best fit. He saw something I did not see. Now, I truly feel we have made a difference for our students, though we are certainly not done.

I hope this message encourages all of you to think about what matters. Whatever life has thrown your way, all the times we wonder why God allows situations to happen to his people, I hope and pray you will remember to be thankful for what you have. My friend Harry and me wrote a song once called “My Tomorrow,” and the chorus goes like this:

“My tomorrow’s a blessing I’m given to live.

To do something special, to have and to give.

The time that we have on this earth is not long,

But some day I’ll be where I truly belong.

I’m carried by loved ones, the bread of my life.

My brothers, my sisters, my kids and my wife.

Of all of the things that I worry about, you’re the answer I can’t love without.”

I pray this message blesses you. Be a blessing to others, remember those who are the bread of your life, be thankful for what you have, and focus on how you can use your talents and abilities. Your tomorrow is a blessing, how will you use it? Be thankful and praise God often for what He has provided for your family and you.

Also, as we look towards 2024, please pray for all our elected leaders.

We must fight for our kiddos in the public schools, and the things they are being taught. We need to make sure every student has the ability to be successful in whatever environment is best.

We must continue to fight for a better tax system for all our folks.

We must continue to invest in our future, making sure Kansas is the best place for young families to plant roots, a place seniors look to retire to, and a place current or future business owners look to start growing.

God bless you this holiday season.

How Did Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Get a Foothold

in Kansas Schools?

by Linda Highland

At the Kansas State Board of Education on November 14, 2023

A growing number of Kansans hold deep concerns about your social emotional learning comprehensive curriculum. Additionally, 172 elected Delegates at the Kansas Republican Party September meeting voted to send you a Resolution Calling for the End of SEL in Kansas schools. You brag on your website of being the first state to fully adopt SEL in 2012. Do you know the forces behind SEL? Is it helping Kansas students?

First let’s look at who is behind this latest scheme, SEL, that the KSBE has put Kansas school children under. The journey begins with one of the wealthiest men in America, the late John Fetzer, whose wealth allowed him to institutionalize his spiritual vision into a thriving foundation, the Fetzer Institute, designed to carry his insights into the future, in hopes that it would help catalyze a global new age and occult spiritual transformation.

In 1994, the so called, “missing piece” in education, the term “social and emotional learning,” and CASEL, then called Collaborative to Advance Social and Emotional Learning, were born. The Fetzer Institute along with a reported 15 additional wealthy foundations pulled together the funding and a seven-member board, some from the Fetzer Institute. In 1995 Dan Goldman, then a reporter for the New York Times and now also a CASEL board member, conveniently wrote a book to introduce a new term, emotional intelligence, or EQ. SEL would be used to develop EQ, which CASEL touts as being more important than your IQ This theory was discredited by many psychologists.

Nevertheless, with millions to spend, CASEL was off to the races selling their fraudulent wears to state boards of education, federal agencies, NGOs like the National Governors Association, and the UN Education Sustainability Goal 4, SDG4, where along with the World Economic Forum, they wish to “promote public-private partnerships to address global reskilling.” Did you seek other opinions on SEL?

All schools are forced into measuring SEL because it is a requirement for accreditation. “Social Emotional Factors Measured Locally” is first on the list of “Results” needed for accreditation in Kansas schools. Shouldn’t the Legislature ask what is the cost and return on investment of the SEL curriculum to Kansas students, parents, teachers, and taxpayers? It appears you come up with very costly endeavors without caring what the costs will be for the legislature to fund them.

The KSDE has hired the Council for the Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP), established in 2016, to set standards for teacher training in Kansas. It appears from reports by university students that this accrediting agency also has a ‘transformative” agenda with teacher training. Their 2022 Initial Level Standards #1 on Content and Pedagogical Knowledge states, “The provider (university) . . . facilitates candidates’ reflection of their personal biases to increase their understanding and practice of equity, diversity, and inclusion.” Why are you not doing your own teacher accreditation, instead of bringing this DC group into Kansas with their radical agenda?

Do you recall when President Ronald Reagan went to the Berlin Wall and stated emphatically, “Tear down this wall!” and the wall came down? I came here today to make a similar declaration. The evidence shows that your comprehensive SEL curriculum has built a wall of destruction in the form of dangerous ideologies getting in the way of academic learning. Which of the two paths set before you will you take? Are you staying with all of education being taken over by SEL? Or will you begin again to allow the most valuable asset in education, your well-trained teachers, to fully teach academics and let the students thrive again?

I say, TEAR DOWN THE SEL WALL!

Conservatively Speaking

by

KSGOP Chairman

Mike Brown

The Disturbing Trend of Radicalism in Higher Education

A deeply troubling trend has emerged within higher education institutions across the United States. Student organizations at some of the nation's most elite universities have voiced sympathy for Hamas, a terrorist group responsible for heinous acts of violence against innocent Israelis. They've also resurrected Bin Laden's “Letter to America” and sympathize with its message. This alliance with murderous organizations has left Americans of every stripe dumbfounded, including school alumni and liberals who also are shocked and appalled.

It is important to note that expressing critical opinions about the Israeli government is not inherently problematic. However, endorsing and justifying acts of terrorism, such as rape, murder, and beheading, under the guise of "decolonization," is morally abhorrent.

But unfortunately, the prevalence of this antisemitic sentiment among some of today's brightest students does not surprise me. Students are generally compassionate individuals. They are also void of experience or historical reference because they've not been around the sun enough times. Their indiscriminate empathy along with their experiential ignorance blinds them to factual realities when those realities challenge a supposed narrative of oppression.

The media plays a significant role in shaping public opinion, and its portrayal of Palestine as an untarnished victim and Israel as an unequivocal oppressor feeds into the narrative embraced by many elite-educated individuals.

And it's a lie.

American students have been taught from a young age to primarily and foremost consider feelings, privilege, and historical marginalization when assessing merit and behavior. This flawed premise absolves those with marginalized identities of individual accountability. In other words, evildoers get a free pass by being lumped into a broader group. This faulty reasoning would lead directly to all prisoners across the globe being freed and all courts being disbanded because every one of the convicted or accused belongs to a broader group. This is a Sesame Street premise generations have been taught: all must be treated equivocally fairly, and the past, whether a minute or a decade ago, must be ignored. But that isn't how the world and society work, which is why we are in this mess.

Acknowledging Israel's suffering, its right to defend itself against terrorism, and the ethical superiority of its democratic government requires accepting moral truth over prescribed narratives of oppression. Unfortunately, universities have too often denied more straightforward, obvious truths in favor of ideologies - such as denying biological distinctions between males and females.

While recognizing that there is no moral equivalency between accepting a transgender individual on a swim team and endorsing Violence in Israel, it is essential to scrutinize the educator's perspective on both issues. Both involve forsaking established truths because they disrupt current understandings of identity.

Higher education institutions have recklessly abandoned the university education model of the pursuit of truth and intellectual integrity by prioritizing solidarity with perceived marginalized groups over scientific realities.

This abandonment compromises the very essence of education itself.

And it will soon compromise the very essence of their funding.

Parents must inoculate their children against the weaponization of emotive victimology, emphasizing the differences between facts, opinions, and feelings. By starting this process early, we may have a chance at reclaiming higher education's commitment to truth in the future.

The legislature must curb this nonsense using the state’s purse strings.

Society must reject this nonsense using their votes.

Universities must return to their core purpose, or they risk losing credibility and turning away prospective students who seek genuine education and knowledge rather than ideological indoctrination.

The left has had fifty years to “experiment” on society through education at every level. Now is the time for America to take back control of the universities we pay for with our tax dollars and see that the next generation is educated on facts and not feelings.

New Kansas License Plate Design Another Embarrassment for New York Native Kansas Governor Laura Kelly

Proposed new design for Kansas License Plates scheduled for roll out in 2024.

Current New York License Plate Design

Kansans were once again reminded where Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is originally from when the new Kansas license plate design was rolled out this week to a resounding “thud.”

The plate design, shockingly and suspiciously like the New York State license plate, has been panned by Kansans on both sides of the political aisle.

The Kansas Republican Party calls on Kansas Governor Laura Kelly to go back to the drawing board and come up with something - anything really - that is original like a buffalo or the state seal. Oh wait, we already had those designs which were broadly loved. That would be cost effective and simple.

There are many reasons Kansas Republicans don't care to emulate New York or any liberal state. But satisfying our governor's home-sickness for her home state with Kansas tax dollars is wholly unacceptable.

Governor, take the license plate design back to New York. We'll buy you the one-way ticket. That's the kind of real-world problem-solving Kansans understand and appreciate.

You're welcome.

Are Political Party 50/50 Raffles Legal as a Fundraiser?

by

Mark Skoglund, ED

Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission

KSGOP Chairman Mike Brown passed on to Mark Skogkund, Executive Director of the Kansas Governmental Affairs Commission, a question regarding fundraising, asking him for his input and any further explanation. Below is his response.

If you have a question for Governmental Ethics, send it to [email protected]. We will work to get you an answer.

Question:

Is a 50/50 fundraising raffle legal, and if so, how should it be reported on the finance reporting form?

Answer:

First, 50/50 raffles are legal but have two issues worth being aware of:

1. However much the ticket costs, the ticket's total price is a contribution. The 50% given away at the end of the raffle is an expenditure from the Committee. If a ticket costs $20, then the purchaser has made a $20 contribution, even though $10 will ultimately be given away for the raffle at the end. This is conceptually like when someone gives, say, $100 through Paypal - the contributor has given $100 and should be reported accordingly, even though PayPal processing fees mean the committee only receives around $97.

2. The pass-the-hat anonymous issue also applies to these scenarios, so they should have names and addresses written down for people who purchase tickets. That may be something they are already doing to run the 50/50 raffle, but I just wanted to remind them of that as well.

How Does the

RNC Work?

As the KSGOP moves closer to our late-January State Convention where elections for Kansas National Committeeman (NCM) and National Comittewoman (NCW) will occur, folks are curious about the NCW and NCM positions and what all of this means. This article is intended to provide some information and clarity, however it is not intended to be definitive but rather educational.

Here is an explanantion, each piece borrowed from different sources or experience including RNC sources, current NCW and NCM, and searches of the internet regarding how the governing body of the Republican National Committee, often referred to as “The 168”, is comprised and how it functions:

The RNC's membership is made up of 168 members from 56 states and territories (one chair, one national committeeman and one national committeewoman, so 3x56 = 168).

The NCW and NCM members are elected by each state and territory to serve a four year term and in that capacity they serve as the governing body of the RNC with each state party chairman. There are typically 3 major meetings a year and other meeting opportunities scattered throughout the year.

The RNC does not typically pay for travel expenses and accommodations for any meetings and the Members (at least in Kansas) pay all of their own expenses.

NCW and NCM Duties

National Level

The RNC Committee Members’ primary responsibility is to elect the Chairman and Co-Chairman of the Republican National Committee. They also play an important role as to the formulation of national policies through The Rules of the Republican Party, the Republican Party Platform and Member-driven resolutions.

Committee Members also provide key guidance on the interpretation of RNC National policies and to provide input on their revision which occurs every four years at the Republican National Convention.

RNC Committee Members should attend all meetings at the state and national levels.

State and Local Level

On a state and local level, National Committee Members serve as leaders of the Party and fulfil several different roles including: advisor, implementer, fundraiser, moderator, cheerleader, counselor, activist, and motivator. RNC Members can, from time to time, act as spokespersons for the National Committee and respective state party committees.

Other responsibilities

Attend all RNC meetings

Deliver RNC messages to the state and/or local committee(s)

Facilitate party utilization of RNC information and resources

Meet often with local and state party leaders

Communicate with the RNC Regional Political Director

Work to ensure party unity as an effective moderator, should internal disputes arise

Work to implement RNC National programs in Kansas

Work with state party leaders to develop and coordinate party programs

Be willing to travel and give speeches

Maintain a presence and involvement in state and local activities

Work with state party leaders as a productive member of the State Executive Committee

Serve as a surrogate when needed to campaign for state and local candidates

Support the work of the party with personal financial contributions

Engage grassroots activists and actively recruit new party workers

RNC Meetings

RNC Committee Members attend three annual meetings: The January Winter Meeting, the Spring Meeting in April or May and the Summer Meeting in July or August.

When RNC Committee Members meet, they vote on proposals that maintain essential business of the party such as review of the annual RNC budget, review of Member-submitted resolutions and review & interpretation of Party Rules, among other things.

RNC Committee Members are responsible for making travel and lodging arrangements and personally providing all funds required for travel and attendance at RNC meetings.

Terms of Office

An RNC Committee Member is elected to a four-year term which commences at the adjournment of the Republican National Convention immediately following their election and lasts until the adjournment of the following quadrennial National Convention.

“Tell Me Something Good…”

“Tell Me Something Good…”

is an uplifting and informative column by YOU!

Submittals may be an email, a picture, a meme, a joke, or about anything you think worthy.

But keep it clean and family-friendly, please! NOTE: Email your submittals to [email protected]

This weeks submission is about the famous Kansas-based Stafford County Flour Mills and Hudson Cream flour, the home baker's choice.

About Hudson Cream Flour

We're located in Hudson, Kansas (pop. 125) and are now one of the last independent flour mills remaining in the U.S. While we've made a few improvements over the years, added a couple of flour bins and put in more roll stands, our purpose has stayed the same: produce the best quality flour possible at a fair price.

Hudson Cream Flour is made using a "short patent" milling process, a method that was much more common a century ago than today. The difference is that in short patent milling the wheat is ground more times and sifted with finer-meshed sieves than in standard milling. Also, the short patent process sifts away more by-product, leaving only the heart of the wheat kernel to make Hudson Cream flour. The result is a flour that is smoother in texture and produces baked goods that are consistently light and fluffy.

Our specialty is flour for the home baker. We're recognized by the distinctive cow logo, and we're often asked: how does a cow symbolize flour? In the early 1900s when the mill was built, many people owned their own cows for milking and it was commonly believed that the Jersey cow produced the best milk and cream. The mill's founder chose the Jersey cow and the word "cream" to symbolize the white richness, smooth texture, and high quality of the flour.

We take pride in being a company that actively supports the community: whether through sponsoring the local high school, being an active supporter of the county 4-H program, educating all ages through the dozens of tours given of the mill each year, providing flour for various service organizations fundraisers, helping at the area health fair, or providing equipment for the volunteer fire department, we believe that a healthy community builds strong citizens.

Our home office in Hudson is open from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday (closed major holidays). You are welcome to purchase flour and merchandise at our home office during business hours.

Facts and Figures

Biden's Border Crisis

Month after month, Biden’s border crisis breaks record after record with no end in sight. Over 8.2 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border since Biden took office – making our country less safe. Our southern border is wide open, cartels and smugglers are thriving, yet Biden and Democrats still refuse to accept responsibility for the humanitarian crisis they created.

What you need to know:

New data shows 240,988 illegal immigrants were encountered attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in October –the highest total for October in DHS history.

For 32 straight months, monthly encounters have been higher than even the highest month seen under the previous administration.

With roughly 7,700 daily encounters, this dwarfs the definition of a "crisis" set by Obama's DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson in 2019 when he said that "more than 1,000" encounters a day "overwhelms the system."

October’s 240,000-plus encounters is a 353% increase from the average number of October apprehensions from 2017-2020.

11,522 unaccompanied children were encountered.

106,290 migrants who crossed as part of a family were encountered.

125,071 illegal immigrants were encountered from countries outside the Northern Triangle and Mexico, showing that Biden's crisis is global.

At least 12 people on the terror watchlist were encountered trying to enter the U.S. between ports of entry.

More than 8.2 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border since Biden took office.

This includes the 6.5 million illegal immigrants that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has encountered and the more than 1.7 million gotaways that have escaped past Border Patrol into the U.S.

Border officials say the official number of gotaways vastly undercounts the illegal immigrants who make it into the U.S.

The bottom line:

Biden's failure to address the situation at the border, or even recognize it as a crisis, is a complete dereliction of duty.

"Bidenomics" Pain Continues

Under Biden, year-over-year inflation has doubled – yet he wants four more years to ‘finish the job.’ Prices are up, real wages are down, and American families can’t afford the price of Bidenomics.

What you need to know:

The latest Consumer Price Index data shows year-over-year inflation remained high last month at 3.2%– twice the rate compared to when Biden took office.

Inflation has risen by 17.6% since Biden took office – with Americans still reeling from the lasting effects of inflation.

On a year-over-year basis, inflation under Biden has averaged 5.9% – more than double the level of inflation seen under any of the last four presidents.

Food prices are up 20.9%, rent is up 18%, and electricity is up 24.7% since Biden took office.

Americans are suffering from the lasting effects of Biden’s historic inflation, with many struggling to pay their debts, save for retirement, or afford rent.

62% of Americans report living paycheck-to-paycheck.

79% of Americans say their overall household debt is higher or about the same as it was a year ago.

More than half of Americans feel stress about their everyday expenses.

Bidenomics has cost the middle class $2.4 trillion since March 2022.

The average middle-class household has lost over $33,000 in real wealth in just the past year.

Low-income Americans are being hit the hardest by inflation, according to studies.

U.S. average gas prices currently sit at $3.35 per gallon, which is nearly $1 per gallon higher than when Biden became president.

The bottom line:

Bidenflation has caused nothing but pain and misery.

Biden Caves To China's Xi

From national security to COVID, Joe Biden has appeased China and refused to hold them accountable. Now, he’s expected to strike a military deal that cedes one of our ' strategic advantages ' to China. Biden continues to put the Chinese Communist Party first and America last.

What you need to know:

Biden has a long history of praising China and ignoring the danger it poses to American national security.

Biden has downplayed the threat of China, saying “China is not our enemy,” “a rising China is a positive development” for the U.S., and they’re “ not bad folks.”

As president, Biden has continued his soft-on-China policy approach which has led to an emboldened China.

Under Biden’s watch, China has been secretly building military facilities in nearby countries, increasing its use of cyber-attacks , and targeting Taiwan economically.

Biden has ignored Chinese hackers breaching the email accounts of senior U.S. government officials.

The Biden administration is allowing American universities that host chapters of the Confucius Institute, a Chinese Communist Party-backed program used to peddle influence and steal intellectual property, to circumvent a ban on receiving federal funds.

Biden has failed to confront China on the origins of the coronavirus after promising he would “insist” on getting answers.

Biden resumed funding for the WHO despite China’s significant influence over the organization.

The Biden administration bought $1.3 billion worth of Chinese-made COVID tests to send to Americans.

Biden’s administration has failed to stand up to China on its human rights abuses like the Chinese Communist Party’s genocide of the Uyghurs.

Biden failed to confront Xi Jinping after China flew a spy balloon across the United States.

The Biden White House has waffled on protecting U.S. national security when it comes to TikTok – saying there are “concerns” with the app while simultaneously doing everything they can to promote it.

When it comes to America’s commitment to Taiwan, Biden has only created confusion.

Biden has repeatedly said that the U.S. would send troops to Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion.

White House officials have had to continuously correct Biden’s mistake saying the “policy has not changed.”

After Biden botched the Afghanistan withdrawal, China saw it as a sign that the U.S. would not defend Taiwan if attacked.

The bottom line:

Biden puts China first and America last.
