Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Week in Review

A recently released report from the Wildlife Management Institute, Responsive Management, and Southwick Associates showed that wildlife-based recreation contributed nearly $12.5 billion to Ohio?s economy in 2022, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. ?
?Ohio has rolling hills for hunting, vast waterways for fishing, and thriving habitats for birding,? Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said. ?The diverse natural wonders of Ohio prove once again the state really is ?The Heart of it All.??

Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted announced that the state is partnering with Intel, JobsOhio, and the Ohio Grants Alliance?to formalize a semiconductor supply chain consortium in Ohio's Silicon Heartland.
The creation of the Silicon Heartland Supplier Consortium will better position Ohio to:
- Become one of two new semiconductor clusters in the United States.
- Help current and prospective Ohio suppliers compete for new federal grant funding for semiconductor materials and manufacturing equipment.
?Ohio is committed to ensuring the success of the Silicon Heartland," said Governor DeWine. "Bringing together industry partners to onshore this critical industry is key to strengthening our national security, spurring future innovation, and making our economy more resilient.??
?When we were working to attract Intel to establish its semiconductor fab facility in Ohio, we knew that most of the jobs would be created from the supply chain that followed,? said Lt. Governor Husted. ?The establishment of this semiconductor consortium can play an important role in establishing Ohio as the Silicon Heartland."
Lt. Governor Husted joined Chair of the Greater Cleveland Partnership?s Board of Directors Paul Dolan for a fireside chat focused on economic development at the organization?s annual Leadership Forum.? |

Governor DeWine announced that applications are now being accepted for a fourth round of child care stabilization grants and that steps are being taken to increase the base rates for publicly funded child care beginning Feb. 4, 2024.
?We have been focused on increasing the safe, stable, quality child care programs to ensure Ohio?s youngest students have the best possible foundation for their future learning,? said Governor DeWine. ?We are now focusing on supporting early childhood professionals in order to increase the availability of child care spaces for working parents and caregivers.?

In accordance with the order issued by the President of the United States and to honor the life and legacy of former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, Governor DeWine ordered the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio to be?flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout the State of Ohio effective immediately until sunset the day of her interment, November 29, 2023.

Governor DeWine and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer placed a friendly wager ahead of the rivalry football game between The Ohio State University and the?University of Michigan, commonly referred to as "The Game."??
?College football fans will have a great game to watch on Saturday as the 11-0 Ohio State Buckeyes face off against the 11-0 Michigan Wolverines,? said Governor DeWine. ?I am confident that Coach Ryan Day and The Ohio State Buckeyes will bring a win back to Ohio, so I am making another friendly wager of ice cream with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. O-H!??
This year, Governor DeWine has bet peppermint stick, hot cocoa peppermint, and cow patty ice cream from Young's Jersey Dairy in Yellow Springs and black raspberry chip ice cream from Graeter's in Cincinnati.
