Friend --
As we rest and reflect on the
significance of this holiday weekend, we come together in respect and
recognition of the invaluable heritage that Indigenous communities
have preserved and shared for generations.
Today is Native American Heritage Day, and we join in
honoring and celebrating the rich and diverse cultures, traditions,
and contributions of indigenous peoples of North
America. We acknowledge the
enduring resilience of First Nations as stewards of this land for the
past 13,000 years.
We sit on unceded land where 574
culturally rich and diverse federally recognized tribes live and work
today. Acknowledging the history of imperialism, colonization, theft
and genocide is essential to building a foundation of trust and
accountability with our indigenous neighbors. We do not run from these
realities, rather we choose to embrace the these truths, as they are
an opportunity for growth and to be in a right relationship with land
and people.
Thank you for taking this journey
towards collective healing with us. Happy Thanksgiving, and Happy
Native American Heritage Day!
