And inflation halved.

Good Evening john,

My newsletter includes reporting on a £450 tax cut, an 8.5% increase to the State Pension, and stamping out anti-social behaviour in Haltwhistle.

As ever, if you have an issue you would like to raise with me as your local Member of Parliament, please email: [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .

💷 £450 National Insurance tax cut & inflation halved

The Government's promise to halve inflation was delivered this week.

We are cutting your national insurance so you keep more of your hard earned cash.

This means more money in the pockets of working families and a boost for our high streets and businesses across Tynedale and Ponteland.

We are speeding up the introduction of the tax cut so you and your family will start to feel the benefits by January. The tax cut means a typical teacher would be better off by £650 and a typical junior doctor by £750.

We also heard the great news that we have halved inflation from its peak of 10.7% last October down to 4.6%. Inflation is a tax on people's pockets, making your the price of your food shop and mortgage more expensive, whilst eating into your pension . Halving it means your money will go further.

✅ State Pension to increase 8.5%

This week, the Chancellor announced an 8.5% increase to the basic State Pension. As a result, older residents across Tynedale and Ponteland will have more money in their back pockets, boosting our local economy.

After the Conservative Government introduce the Pensions Triple Lock, the basic State Pension is £3,750 higher than under the last Labour government.

👮‍♂️ Tackling anti-social behaviour in Haltwhistle

Guy is working with the Council, Karbon Homes, and Northumbria Police to implement an anti-social plan and stamp out crime so residents feel safe.

This week, I joined Northumbria Police officers, local Town Councillors, and Karbon Homes in Haltwhistle to progress our plan to tackle anti-social behaviour.

It is unacceptable our neighbours are worried about leaving the house because of threatening behaviour. Getting more police officers on our streets, better lighting and CCTV, and improved youth services will cut the level of anti- social behaviour so residents feel safe whatever the street or time of day.

Since 2019, we have recruited an additional 705 police officers for the Northumbria Force. I am making the case to the Chief Constable to get our fair share in Haltwhistle.

We are making progress: Northumbria Police have made a number of arrests in the town over recent weeks, and I would urge all residents to report suspicious or criminal activity show they can build a case to take further action.

But I need to know your views so we can work to tackle crime. Tell me about your experiences of anti-social behaviour by clicking HERE ([link removed]) .

🛍️ Business tax cuts announced and Living Wage increased

I am delighted the Government announced plans to raise the National Living Wage, benefitting 2 million workers and supporting our high streets and town centres.

Record support has been announced for businesses. We are making our high streets better places to shop and visit by freezing business rates, giving our town centres a much-needed boost.

I am working to make Hexham town centre a better place to visit. We have already secured millions through the Hexham High Streets Heritage Action Zone, and this tax cut will build on that progress.
