Hi there,
Beneath Big Tech’s shiny veneer of innovation is an unchecked, virtually unregulated, and unprecedented-in-scale industry fueled by addiction, exploitation, and greed.
Their relentless growth, corporate consolidation, surveillance advertising, and profit-seeking algorithms all come at a grave cost to our mental health, well-being, privacy, public safety, and democracy.
Here at Accountable Tech, we’re fighting for the structural reforms that are necessary to counter the threat Big Tech companies pose to our information ecosystem – and to our democracy. We use nimble rapid response efforts alongside longer-term legislative, regulatory, and corporate accountability campaigns to challenge Big Tech’s unrestricted monopolies and structural power.
With Giving Tuesday approaching, we ask for your support today, because it’s obvious that without strong efforts to check their power, Big Tech will only continue to push our democracy to the brink. So if you agree that someone needs to hold them accountable,
please make a donation to Accountable Tech today.
YES, I'LL DONATE
We don’t (and wouldn’t) employ thousands of lobbyists like Big Tech does to buy influence in Washington and around the world. Despite not having limitless resources like Big Tech, Accountable Tech is an effective and efficient nonprofit that’s uniquely positioned to punch above our weight.
In just the past couple of years, we’ve:
-
Successfully pushed Meta to stop the development of ‘Instagram for Kids,’ and elevated Frances Haugen’s whistleblower documents in the Facebook Papers.
-
Showed how Google has continually broken their own promise to protect the personal data of abortion seekers since the fall of Roe, by retaining their personal data and making them vulnerable to potential prosecution.
-
Worked with leading artificial intelligence and privacy experts to publish a Zero Trust AI Governance framework, setting the baseline for regulatory oversight and intervention of this rapidly-expanding new technology
-
Secured the unanimous passage of the California Age Appropriate Design Code in a coalition with partners, establishing a framework to protect kids from the harms of addictive social media platforms by default, and spurring similar legislation across the U.S.
This is just a small snapshot of the impact Accountable Tech has made recently in watchdogging Big Tech and serving as a counterbalance to the growing power of these massive companies. With your generosity, together we’ll have an even bigger impact in 2024.
So please support our ongoing work to hold Big Tech companies accountable with an early Giving Tuesday gift here:
YES, I'LL DONATE
Thank you for all the work you’ve put in this year and the investment you’re making to protect the future of our digital landscape, the health of our kids, and the survival of our democracy.
Together,
Nicole Gill
