Huge boost for Oldham's swimming pools

Great news! Oldham has recently been given the maximum award of £500,000 from Sport England’s Swimming Pool Support Fund.

This new funding will benefit swimmers and learners of all ages across Oldham, with the money to be used to help with operating costs such as heating and pool chemicals – the prices of which have all gone up significantly in recent years across the borough.

[White Ribbon Day]([link removed])

Make your White Ribbon promise

Tomorrow marks White Ribbon Day, a day which signifies a commitment in preventing men’s violence in all forms against women and girls.

As an accredited White Ribbon council, we’re playing our part in Oldham to tackle this issue head on and through the help of our White Ribbon Ambassadors and Champions, we’re working to ensure every woman and girl who lives and grows up across our borough feels safe.

You can help to make a difference today too by making an official promise to never use, excuse or remain silent about men’s violence against women.

For more information on how to do this, [please visit the White Ribbon website.]([link removed])

[Upcoming road closures]

Upcoming road closures

Please be aware Oldham Way will be closed in both directions for five nights from Monday 27 November to Friday 1 December for surfacing works.

The closure will be in place between Manchester Road Roundabout and the junction of Prince Street/Oldham Way from 8pm to 5am.

The council will also have to close Delph High Street, at the side of number 10, from Tuesday 28 November in order to carry out urgent repair works on a collapsed gully and carriageway subsidence. The work is expected to last three days.

Diversions will be signposted for both sets of works and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

[Temporary closure to Local Studies and Archives Service]([link removed])

We're temporarily closing our Local Studies and Archives ahead of an exciting move!

We’re making temporary changes to our Local Studies and Archives Service this winter, as the service prepares to move to its new home in the redeveloped Spindles.

The current base at 84 Union Street will close to the public on 30 November with the service’s new temporary home opening in March 2024 within Oldham Library, prior to its move to Spindles when the new permanent archives centre is created.

Moving to a new site is a huge task and we will have to reduce some of our archive services until this work is done.

Users of all Oldham libraries will still be able to enjoy free access to family history websites, including Ancestry and FindMyPast alongside online census information from 1841 to 1921 on our public computers.

[Oldham Foodbank]([link removed])

Support Oldham Foodbank this winter

Oldham Foodbank is experiencing its highest-ever demand from local people in crisis and it’s now in desperate need of donations ahead of Christmas.

If you can support them in any way over the coming weeks, your help will be hugely appreciated by the team and those in receipt of emergency food parcels.

The foodbank will be collecting donations in local Tesco stores in Failsworth, Westwood and on Huddersfield Road between Thursday 30 November and Saturday 2 December (10am-4pm), if you would like to contribute.

You can also volunteer in helping them to collect donations on these days and for more information on how to get involved, please contact [email protected].

Remember, you can also drop donations off to the foodbank directly at their main base which is Unit B, Prince of Wales House, Industrial Estate, Vulcan St, Oldham OL1 4ER.
