Can you buy nothing new for just one month, this January?

From the water and energy used in manufacture, to the fossil fuels used in transport, every new item that we buy carries an environmental price tag.

Black Friday alone is estimated to be responsible for the release of around 400,000 tonnes of CO2 as people buy new stuff - and research suggests that around 80% of items bought on Black Friday are thrown away after a few uses - some without being used at all.

That's why this Black Friday, we're issuing a challenge: can you buy nothing new, for just one month?

Taking place this January, Buy Nothing New Month is an opportunity to save your pennies by not buying any new goods. (That's not including essentials like food and medicine of course!)

Last year, 65% of participants bought nothing new for a whole month, and an additional 31% bought less than they usually would.

Throughout the month, we'll be highlighting how small changes to our buying habits don't just protect our purses, they can protect our future too.

Sign up now, and throughout January, we'll be sharing tips on cherishing the things we already have, repairing things rather than sending them to landfill, and finding happy new homes for those things we no longer need.
