By influencing policy, holding politicians accountable, and winning elections, League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is organizing a powerful national movement to address the climate crisis, protect our democracy, and achieve environmental justice.
We’re fighting for a world where everyone – regardless of income, race, or zip code – has access to clean air, safe drinking water, public lands, a safe climate, and the protections of a just and equitable democracy. How? By building political power for people and the planet.
Here’s what our work looks like in action:
For more than 50 years, LCV has published the National Environmental Scorecard to track the voting records of members of Congress. By keeping score, we’re shining a light on elected leaders’ policy positions and empowering constituents to thank or hold representatives accountable for their votes on clean air and water, climate change, environmental justice, and – increasingly – voting rights, racial justice, and democracy.
Working with Indigenous tribes and environmental justice leaders around the country, LCV has mobilized our grassroots network to secure protections for sacred, culturally significant landscapes and at-risk sites home to endangered wildlife. Most recently, this has included restoring protections for Bears Ears, Grand Staircase-Escalante, and Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument.
The 2022 midterm elections will come down to an extraordinarily close set of races. Through our affiliated PACs, LCV Action Fund and LCV Victory Fund, we are working in battleground states and nationwide to elect federal candidates who support the kinds of policies that will allow the US to further cut its carbon pollution in half by 2030 and ensure environmental sustainability in the immediate future.
After years of intense organizing and relentless advocacy by LCV’s movement, Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act, the single-largest investment in climate action in our nation’s history. This was an enormous step toward a healthier, more sustainable future with critical investments in renewable energy, cleaner transportation, and air quality monitoring in vulnerable communities. But we aren’t stopping there. We will continue to fight for equitable climate action on many fronts, including bold executive action, continued progress in states and Congress, and blocking the implementation of harmful provisions that are inconsistent with our climate and justice goals.
We’re prepared to keep fighting for our Earth and will keep you informed about how you can help every step of the way. Thank you for becoming a member of LCV and supporting our work to protect people and the planet.
Onward
