Dear friend,
I’m grateful for a lot this Thanksgiving: my mom, my grandmother Lala, my friends, the life I’ve been able to build for myself in LA.
I’m grateful for the wisdom and resilience of the Tongva, Chumash, and Fernandeño Tataviam people, whose land I call my home. One acre has been returned to the tribe; it’s a small step to begin a journey of what must be many more.
“Land back” is a call for self-determination and sovereignty for Native communities, land stewardship by those who know it best, and for the rest of us, unabashedly confronting colonialism and reconnecting with the earth.
I’m grateful for organized, united communities that have fought for justice and equity in this country—civil rights, community empowerment programs, mutual aid, local healthcare systems, and more. We have a long way to go toward meeting everybody’s basic needs, but the growing strength of this campaign shows that so many Americans are ready to scale up humanitarian policies nationwide.
And I’m grateful for you! This campaign would not be in the position it’s currently in—one of the top challengers and fundraisers for this open seat—if not for your support.
Enjoy the day with your loved ones, relax, and care for those around you.
From neighborhood to nation, this campaign has always been about people and community first.
Yours,
Maebe Pudlo
