Dear Friend,
Many of us are celebrating Thanksgiving today. We’ll gather with friends and family over food, watch football, play board games, and take a nap after it’s all said and done.
We know that there are many people who are spending the holiday away from their families and behind bars. We also know that many of those individuals could be home with their families, but aren’t because of the excessive sentences handed out to far too many people across the nation. That is why we call on our state governors and the president to use their clemency powers to give people the second chances they deserve.
Formerly incarcerated people are contributing to society in positive ways because they were given a second chance. State governors and the president should grant clemency to more people who have demonstrated readiness to come home. Clemency reflects shared values of mercy and redemption.
This holiday season, leaders across the country should embrace their clemency powers and bring families back together. Contact your state governor and President Biden today and ask them to extend clemency to more incarcerated individuals who deserve a second chance: [link removed] [[link removed]]
