Thankful for those who serve

Happy Thanksgiving! As we reflect on the last year we join in gratitude for the many great Tennesseans who led lives of service and who are no longer with us.

My sister Kitty and her husband Logan are regular servers at the Room at the Inn. With the arrival of their new baby girl my son and I volunteered to help in their place. Last night in the basement of their church we said a prayer of remembrance and of thanksgiving for the light that Father Charles Strobel's service as founder of Room at the Inn brought to so many - guests and servers alike.

The spirit of Tennessee is the spirit of volunteering to serve others.

We celebrate the fighting spirit of Marcia Echols, who was one of our campaign's earliest supporters. Back in April I had the opportunity to visit with Marcia and today reading our texts together I am lifted by her tremendous optimism for her grandchildren and for their future. Mothers, grandmothers, sisters, friends - there is remarkable fortitude, grace, and strength found in the selfless volunteering of many women like Marcia Echols.

The spirit of Tennessee is the spirit of bringing people together and fewer public servants modeled this as well as Gov. Don Sundquist. His 1994 campaign was the first I volunteered on and our campaign was the last one he supported. Earlier this month his final OpEd was published in the Tennessean. Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours.

Sincerely,

Alice

A Season of Thanksgiving

In October I was honored to join Nashville's great treasures, the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia, on pilgrimage. In November we celebrated our veterans with a special fly-in by the 101st organized by combat veteran and super-mom Courtney Conklin, we joined the Mission Continues in the Nashville Veterans Day Parade and Congressman Mark Green's Salute to Veterans.

This is a season of gratitude to those who serve others.

Update on Closing the Campaign

Thank you for your generosity, we have retired a good portion of our campaign debt.

Here is a memo from Mills Waterhouse ([link removed] ) about how to support our efforts.

We appreciate your consideration before December 15th, the campaign will be fully closed at the end of December.

Our campaign launch message, here ([link removed] ) , and our campaign concession speech, here ([link removed] ) , never wavered in our belief that you can get more done when you stop operating from politics of division and you start working on advocating for policies - supporting public safety, improving schools, and responsibly managing city finances - that unite us and that matter, most.
