Dear Jack,
Reflecting on this Thanksgiving holiday, I am filled with gratitude for supporters like you. Your unwavering dedication moves us forward, and we thank you for standing with us as we lead a growing national movement to protect our magnificent wild horses and burros.
Your support has helped us accomplish so much this year, and we’re not done yet! Here’s just a glimpse…
This year, we launched our groundbreaking Land Conservancy Project and acquired 3,300+ acres of open-range land in Nevada’s beautiful Carson Valley, securing crucial habitat for the beloved Fish Springs wild horse herd.
Our wild horse fertility control program on Nevada’s Virginia Range – the largest of its kind in the world – continues to be a model for humane wild horse management. We also expanded our fertility control efforts to Utah , pioneering an important collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the local ranching permittee for a humane in-the-wild management program for the Cedar Mountain wild horses..
These programs are proving that there is a better way to conserve our wild herds.
Thanks to you, we’ve ramped up our awareness efforts significantly, with billboards and TV ad campaigns in several states across the country. As a result, we’ve reached millions of citizens and added tens of thousands of advocates to our growing herd.
Every time you took action through AWHC’s action alerts, you fueled our fight in Washington to enact lasting reforms. Working with our champions in Congress and our animal welfare colleagues, we played a key role in the introduction of several important pieces of legislation.
This includes the Wild Horses and Burros Protection Act of 2023 , aimed at banning the use of helicopters in roundups, and the Ejiao Act addressing the global issue of donkey/burro slaughter. Critically, we secured Fiscal Year 2024 appropriations legislation that will require the BLM to fund humane fertility control programs as an alternative to inhumane helicopter roundups.
Your backing of our Investigations Team allows us to continue to shed light on the truth about the plight of wild horses and burros at roundups and in holding facilities as well as continue to investigate and expose the consequences of the BLM’s disastrous Adoption Incentive Program.
Our mission is simple: to uphold America’s promise of freedom for our iconic wild horses and burros. Thank you sincerely for the vital progress we’ve made – I’m truly looking forward to what we can achieve together in 2024.
Warmest wishes from our AWHC family to you and your loved ones (human and non-human). We hope that you have a very happy and restful Thanksgiving holiday.
With Gratitude,
