People For the American Way

Friend,

As we gather around the table to celebrate Thanksgiving, it's important to take a moment to acknowledge the complex history surrounding this holiday, particularly for Native peoples.

We recognize that the traditional narrative of Thanksgiving often overlooks the suffering experienced by Indigenous communities. It is crucial for us to remember and honor those communities’ rich cultures, resilience, and contributions to our society.

In the spirit of reflection and unity, we want to express our gratitude for the opportunity to learn from past mistakes and work towards a more inclusive future. We are committed to fostering an environment of respect, understanding, and support for all communities.

This Thanksgiving, let us come together as a collective force for positive change.

As we express gratitude for the blessings in our lives, let's also extend that gratitude to those who have been marginalized or silenced in the past. Together, we can strive towards creating a more equitable society where everyone's voice is heard and valued.

Wishing you a reflective and meaningful Thanksgiving,

Svante Myrick
President
