Rep. Lucy McBath's son, Jordan, was shot and killed on November 23, 2012. See below for her statement commemorating Jordan as Thanksgiving marks eleven years since his death.
This Thanksgiving marks eleven years since I heard my son’s voice.
In 2023, we are tragically on track for more mass shootings than ever before.
With the news out of Washington seemingly reaching new levels of negativity and chaos, our only option is to double down on this fight to keep our children safe.
The challenges we face as a country are far too serious for us to give in to the forces of despair.
Through the chaos, we have seen real wins. I have sponsored and passed red flag laws and background checks for all gun sales, the very same legislation I once advocated for as an activist.
As more families are losing loved ones every single day in this country, we must not let up in this fight. To everyone who has an empty chair this holiday season - I continue to fight for you as we fight together.
Together, we will end gun violence.
