Dear Friends,

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is about to launch an absolutely unprecedented initiative – a satellite broadcast package ! It will enable independent Russian media to broadcast news and information to Russian-speakers who are currently denied access to independent reporting.

Thanks to this satellite package – called Svoboda, the Russian word for “freedom” – RSF will invert the Kremlin’s propaganda method. Instead of receiving, in our democracies, content produced under Russia’s authoritarian control, we will enable independent media to broadcast diverse and freely reported news and information to people who do not enjoy the right to such content.

This satellite package will be operational in a few weeks. It will consist of news programmes offering a pluralistic and objective view of international developments. Specific media and ethics committees will be set up in order to ensure that this satellite package is used in accordance with the best journalistic standards.
