[ [link removed] ]A sloth hanging on a tree branch in the rainforest
John,
For millennia, the Huaorani people of Ecuador have lived in harmony with
the rainforest around them – and the jaguars, sloths, and endangered birds
that share this sacred place.
But oil companies are trying to destroy this peaceful co-existence by
forcing the Huaorani off their land so they can drill for oil. Now we have
a chance to protect this land forever!
Last year, Ekō members helped buy a 250-hectare plot of this rainforest,
creating a no-drilling buffer-zone – but this land will only truly be safe
when it’s formally protected by the government.
With all of us chipping in, we can help these heroes do what’s needed to
win protected status: sending in biologists to count and document species,
funding surveys and covering a long list of admin fees, like registering
the land as part of the foundation.
The brilliant thing is that if they win this protection, the forest around
it will, too – meaning more vast plots of Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest
preserved for future generations!
Can you chip in to save a piece of the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest
forever?

The tiny Save the Native Forest Foundation has been doing an extraordinary
job with limited funds – choosing parcels of land that make it
particularly hard for oil and timber companies to press ahead with their
destructive plans. They’re fighting back against powerful corporations in
a strategic game of chess – and, with our help, they’re winning!!
But faced with rapacious, unscrupulous corporations, these heroes are
urgently seeking extra protections for this precious forest – to make sure
there are iron-clad provisions to keep it in Huaorani hands forever.
When similar areas have won “bosque protector” status, they’ve seen an
influx of government money and attention. This could be a game-changer for
the Huaorani people – and stop the oil giants’ plans for good. But it
won’t happen without your help.
John, we’ve already taken a giant step towards keeping this
beautiful swathe of rainforest intact – for the people, animals and plants
that have flourished there for thousands of years. Now let’s make sure no
corporation ever thinks of touching it again. Are you in?
