Folks, when I was a kid, I loved to read.

I would read anything I could get my hands on. Adventure books, comic books, cereal boxes, you name it. As I grew up, I read books that broadened my view of the world, challenged my ideas, and forced me to grow as a person.

I am, in part, the person I am today because of the experiences I gained while reading. I’m more empathetic, more understanding, and more willing to hear someone else’s point of view.

Which is why it terrifies me to see extreme MAGA Republicans all across the country (even in California!) pushing to ban books with just a passing mention of complicated topics or ideas that MAGA extremists find taboo.

Put plainly, team – these MAGA book bans are blatant attacks, not only on the free expression of authors and school children, but adults and society more broadly.

I’m fighting tooth-and-nail against ever increasing MAGA book bans, but we need to snuff out this bigoted movement where it starts – with the MAGA politicians that fuel the hate and fervor of these movements.

Our best chance to fight back against the extreme MAGA agenda is at the ballot box. I’ll be honest, in this single-digit race, and with our fundraising lagging perilously behind, my seat is a top target.
