John — I have known Eva Putzova for more than 15 years.
We met in a local hiking club and I know she cares about properly maintaining our beautiful landscapes. For a variety of reasons, we face challenges in Arizona, and the entire West, when it comes to wildland fire.
In many fire adapted landscapes of the West, we need more prescribed fire and wildland fire (right time, right place, right reason) to improve ecosystem health and resilience to climate change, but this often conflicts with human populations.

The current administration has tried twice to eliminate the Joint Fire Science Program (JFSP), a 20-year-old interagency program that funds wildland fire research and outreach.
Congress has reinstated some of the funding both times, but not at sustainable levels. When we spend billions each year on wildfire suppression, we need to spend more to find potential solutions to these issues.
I know that Eva would support full reinstatement of JFSP funding, as well as science-based land management across all federal lands.
