We know you're likely already getting ready for Thanksgiving but this is important. Please take a quick minute to read this email and take action today.
61% of low-wage workers in the U.S. don’t have paid sick days. These workers are primarily single parents, people with disabilities, and those living paycheck to paycheck.
High-wage workers are 2.5 times more likely to have this essential benefit, leaving those at the bottom of the income bracket struggling.
No one should be forced to work while they’re sick. Workers should have access to paid sick leave regardless of their income level or locality.
Companies should not force their employees to show up to work unwell and risk exposing their coworkers to infection. Employees shouldn’t have to worry about missing a day's pay that could go toward rent, groceries, or essential bills.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act motivated employers to provide sick leave by offering tax incentives. These protections were allowed to expire, and companies have reverted back to inadequate sick leave policies.
It’s been proven: communities with paid sick leave have lower rates of illness and better economic security for workers. Despite this, sick leave policies vary widely from state to state and company to company. It's time for a federal policy that makes paid sick days a permanent benefit for all workers, regardless of where they live or work.
