We’re wishing everyone a wonderful, safe, and happy holiday weekend! But before we all head off to visit family and friends, we wanted to send a reminder that is not only true to our mission, but could also save kids' lives — we need to talk about safe gun storage.
As people across the country gather in kitchens and around dining tables preparing for a feast, we cannot forget that many of us and our children will likely be visiting unfamiliar homes, new environments, and families with varying rules around safety — and this increases the risk of children accessing unsecured firearms.
We cannot forget that in America, the most common cause of death in children is firearms — many of the deaths unintentional.
Research has shown that children are at a 78% higher risk of unintentional injuries from firearms when a household does not securely store firearms. And nearly 4.6 million children live in homes with unsecured firearms.
We can change that: We’re working to elect candidates who support a Kids First Majority in Congress — that includes common sense gun legislation that will protect our kids from these preventable injuries and deaths. To date, 26 states have passed some form of secure storage laws — but that’s not good enough. We need federal legislation that protects EVERY child in America: Join us with a donation of $10 or any amount today:
This holiday, you can help keep our children and communities safe by making sure any firearms in your home or homes you are visiting are unloaded, any ammunition is stored separately, and firearms are locked away in secure storage.
Thank you for keeping our kids safe,
Annie & Renee
