That’s the number of mass shootings that have happened in our country this year alone, John.

Only one month ago, the year’s worst mass shooting occurred in Lewiston, ME, when a gunman armed with an assault weapon senselessly killed 18 people and injured 13 others. This tragedy left headlines and minds all too quickly, but the Lewiston community, and far too many others who have experienced a similar tragedy, will never be the same. The truth of our country is that no one is safe from gun violence – but this does not have to be an inevitability, John.

I know that it is possible to break this deadly cycle of gun violence and forge a new, safer country for us all. That’s what Brady has been working toward for decades and we are seeing the lifesaving results of this dedication. In a moment, I'm going to ask you to make an early Giving Tuesday donation to help us continue our fight to end the gun violence epidemic. But first, I want to share a few victories — made possible by your tireless support:

1. Expanded Brady Background Checks. President Biden took bold action to expand the existing set of background checks that Brady fought to pass 30 years ago. This rule change closed major loopholes in our laws in a huge step toward our eventual goal of universal background checks.

2. The Office of Gun Violence Prevention. President Biden announced a new executive office tasked specifically with ending the gun violence epidemic. We were proud to join President Biden at the White House for this historic announcement.

3. Advocacy in the Courts. Last year, the far-right majority on the Supreme Court issued a devastating ruling that has limited our ability to fight gun violence. Brady has been fighting back in the courts — at all levels — ever since. We just recently filed an amicus brief in the next gun safety case to reach the Supreme Court.

Support from people like you made a real impact this year, John. But make no mistake, we have a long road ahead of us still.

2024 will hold tough battles in the courts, in Congress, and in communities across this country. If we want to take on the gun lobby, pass meaningful gun safety legislation, and save lives, we need you in this fight with us.

So please, before Giving Tuesday begins, will you make a donation to help Brady end gun violence?
