As we gather with loved ones to celebrate Thanksgiving this week, let us cherish our immeasurable blessings and reflect on the abundant things that we’re thankful for – such as our family and our freedoms.

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” — Colossians 3:15-17

This year’s unwelcome Thanksgiving guest: Bidenflation.

According to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 38th annual Thanksgiving dinner survey, the average cost for a Thanksgiving meal for 10 will be $61.17 — making this year the second most expensive Thanksgiving. While prices dropped slightly from last year’s record high, the cost is still 25% higher than in 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last week, Congress passed a short-term spending bill, known as a continuing resolution (CR), to extend government funding and avoid a government shutdown. The measure employed a two-step approach, meaning funds for certain departments and agencies will expire on January 19th, while the remaining funds will expire two weeks later, on February 2nd.

While I support this unique, laddered approach, this CR failed to include any spending cuts, policy reforms, or conservative wins for the American people. Instead, this spending bill continues Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and Joe Biden’s runaway spending and reckless agenda — which is why it should come as no surprise that this measure passed both chambers with more support from Democrats than Republicans.

You and your family didn’t send me to D.C. to rubber-stamp Washington’s status quo, fuel out-of-control inflation, or fund the Left’s radical policies that are destroying our great nation. Therefore, I did not support the “clean” two-step CR. Please know that when lawmakers return to Washington after Thanksgiving, I will continue fighting to pass the remaining Fiscal Year 2024 appropriations bills in a conservative and fiscally responsible manner so we can get our country back on track.

On President Biden’s first day in office, he issued an executive order to recklessly mandate a temporary moratorium on the statutorily mandated oil and gas lease activities in the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). Now, President Biden’s Secretary of Interior is completely canceling these congressionally mandated oil and gas lease permits, while citing a dubious source of statutory authority. This latest decision by the Department of Interior is nothing more than a continuation of the Biden Administration’s dangerous war on America’s energy independence. Plus, this misguided move is circumventing the democratic process and subverting the will of Congress.

Due to my serious concerns about the Biden Administration’s latest anti-American energy policy, I recently led 25 of my House Republican colleagues in sending a letter to Government Accountability Office (GAO) Comptroller General, Gene Dodaro, urging the GAO to evaluate if the Department of Interior’s recent cancellation of seven oil and gas lease permits constitutes a “rule” for purposes of the Congressional Review Act (CRA). As you may know, the CRA allows Congress to review and terminate major rules issued by federal agencies before the rules take effect. Please know that I remain committed to using every tool at my disposal to hold the Biden Administration accountable for driving up energy costs, threatening our energy security, and stifling domestic energy production.

Last week, my Gainesville District Office held our 2023 U.S. Service Academy Day, offering an excellent opportunity for interested Ninth District students to learn more about the United States Service Academies. Special thanks to our fantastic Service Academy Board for making this a successful and informative event, as well as to the patriotic students who joined to gain a better understanding of the application and nomination process.

This week, I look forward to spending Thanksgiving with my loved ones and reflecting on the endless blessings in my life. From my incredible wife, Jennifer, to living in the greatest nation on Earth and serving the people of Georgia’s Ninth District, I am immensely grateful for my precious freedoms and the Lord’s gracious blessings.
