Dear John,

Capitol Hill is where advocacy can spur real change for animals. Mercy For Animals is in the halls of Congress calling for swift change

by some of the world's most powerful people.

My name is Frances, and I'm the federal policy manager at Mercy For Animals. I live in DC and spend my days on the Hill meeting with members of Congress and their staff to create meaningful laws and protections for farmed animals. Your support this year has helped us give animals a voice.

Because of you, this year we've made great strides for animals:

We celebrated a huge victory for animals in California! The Supreme Court affirmed the dismissal of claims against Proposition 12—one of the strongest farmed animal protection laws in the world.

Our groundbreaking investigation into the pork industry made headlines in the New York Times at a pivotal time when lawmakers reintroduced the Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression Act, giving us the power to fight the pork industry, which is backing this dangerous legislation.

Mercy For Animals is leading the charge to create protections for downed pigs. We led a sign-on letter to President Biden calling on his administration to prohibit the slaughter of downed pigs. We were also the lead organization in supporting a bipartisan congressional sign-on letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture on the same topic.

We are building legislative power. We held around 50 meetings with elected officials this year.

We were part of a powerful coalition pushing for the passage of a New Jersey bill to prohibit keeping calves and pregnant pigs in intensive confinement. Mercy For Animals supporters in New Jersey sent more than 1,800 messages to members of the state legislature. On July 26, the governor signed the bill into law.

With you by our side, we can capitalize on this momentum and continue pushing Congress to enact more policies that protect animals. Never forget that your voice matters.

John, will you help us protect animals around the world? You can help support all of Mercy For Animals' efforts to reduce suffering for farmed animals.

We won't stop until all animals are respected, protected, and free.

With gratitude,

Frances Chrzan

Federal Policy Manager

P.S. If you haven't yet, please urge your members of Congress to support the Industrial Agriculture Accountability Act
