Join us in recognizing Debbie Cooper as our Volunteer of the Year and Spotify as our Legal Partnership of the Year!
Dear We The Action Volunteer,
As we move into this holiday season, we want to thank you for the time and energy you dedicate to your pro bono service. Thank you for being an integral part of this community. You inspire us every day, and we’re honored to work alongside you to build a more just and equitable nation.
Each month, we recognize someone in our community who exemplifies our shared values of service and volunteerism. During our inaugural We The Action Summit in October, we had the opportunity to celebrate the profound impact of our community by honoring our first Volunteer of the Year and Legal Partnership of the Year. This week, as we express gratitude to our entire community, we want to share their inspiring stories with you.
Join us in saying…
** Congratulations, Debbie Cooper and Spotify!

A Legacy of Justice: For her dedication to building a more democratic and equitable world through four years of pro bono service at We The Action, Debbie received the Volunteer of the Year award ([link removed]) .
Debbie is a tireless advocate for immigrants in detention, often surpassing expectations for her clients. She’s also passionate about voting rights and ensuring that elections are safe, secure, and accessible for every voter.
Her approach emphasizes the dual importance of aiding individuals directly while also striving for systemic change to maximize impact.
* “Doing both direct services and advocacy work gives a great perspective on everything. You get the immediate gratification of helping someone exercise their rights while trying to change the system for the better,” Debbie says.
* “My father was a child of immigrant parents, and the first in his family to go to law school,” Debbie says. “He used to talk about it every night at dinner and that’s why I became a lawyer. I took a very different path than he did but ended up doing something I really love too.”
Building a Program for Good: As our inaugural Legal Partnership of the Year, Spotify has gone above and beyond in their pro bono work. We are thrilled to be able to honor them for their dedication to championing pro bono work and promoting equitable access to justice.
Brendan Kehoe, who has built Spotify’s pro bono program and has been an incredible partner to We The Action, accepted the award on Spotify’s behalf.
* Brendan says, “Our partnership with WTA has been very strong ever since we founded our pro bono program a couple of years ago during the pandemic. I found WTA to be uniquely suited to connect us with pro bono opportunities.”
** On behalf of 45,000+ volunteer lawyers: Thank you, Debbie and Spotify!
