Hi John, Happy Thanksgiving!
My name is Yasmine, I’m the volunteer captain of NIAC Action’s Chicago chapter. I’m writing to wish you and your loved ones a happy and healthy thanksgiving. This holiday comes at a difficult, trying time for our community, with so much violence, and bloodshed in the world, especially in Palestine and Israel.
I'm proud to be a part of NIAC Action and I share the organization’s commitment to peace, diplomacy, human rights, and civil rights above all else.
But most importantly, I’m grateful to you, John. To everyone who opens these emails, signs the petitions, donates, attends their local chapter meetings, comes to the happy hours, joins our civic trainings, or our grassroots meetings to advocate directly to our lawmakers — thank you.
Your commitment to showing up and staying engaged, despite the effort it takes to sustain that over time, does not go unnoticed AND you are making a difference. NIAC Action continues to be the only Iranian-American group supporting the ceasefire, fighting against a broader regional war, fighting a travel ban to Iran, fighting anti-immigrant property ownership restrictions and fighting discriminatory bank account closures.
Here in Chicago, my fellow chapter members have dedicated their time to prepare and show up for multiple meetings with our Congressional lawmakers, advocating for the ceasefire and highlighting other critical civil and human rights issues - to every on the Chicago team, thank you.
It's hard work, but knowing that NIAC Action chapters across the country are putting in the same effort to give pro-peace Iranian Americans a voice keeps me driven. Week after week, we stay organized, we fight, and we speak out. I'm proud of that, and I'm proud of you.
So please, keep showing up for each other and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
