Hello John,

Energy democracy is about more than just clean energy: it’s a movement to transform our relationships to one another and with ecologies across the globe. Together, we act in solidarity with Indigenous people affirming their right to freedom from colonialism, war, and genocide.

From Turtle Island, to Puerto Rico, to Palestine, we see the links: the heavy policing of our communities, the electricity shut-offs in our homes, and intensifying climate crises that hit low-income, Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities first and worst.

For almost 45 days straight, we have witnessed the deliberate cut-off of energy, water, food, basic supplies, and safety in Palestine by an occupying force. Demands for an end to this same top-down control and ongoing colonial legacy here in the U.S. is at the core of the REFOCUS campaign.

Join us: learn and share how the occupation of Palestine is an energy justice issue

How is this issue related to climate?
Billions of our tax dollars are being used to fund colonization of Palestine via the largest institutional source of greenhouse gas emissions in the world: the U.S. military.

Next week, our friends at the Climate+Community Project
are hosting a powerful webinar that weaves the threads of war and climate change. Together with the Transnational Institute, Win Without War, and Common Wealth, they’ll expose the ties between fossil fuels and the military industrial complex that impacts communities across the globe.

How can I take action?
No matter our zip codes or cultural identity, we all deserve the ability to feel safe in our homes. Join us to demand divestment from colonialism, imperialism, war, and genocide.

Our collective efforts in energy democracy push beyond the transition to renewable energy: across the globe, we're reimagining the ways in which our future can be decolonized, democratized, and decentralized from forces of oppression, so that all communities can thrive.
In solidarity,
