Nottingham City Council Transport News
christmas

Christmas is (almost) here!

Getting to the winter wonderland or other festive events around the city is a breeze using the ticket deals on offer and our brilliant Park & Ride sites.

  • It's still £2 per bus journey but a group ticket will usually be cheaper if you're travelling with others
  • NCT buses offer a grouprider ticket for £8 in Nottingham or £12 across the wider network (out to Southwell etc). That covers one or two adults and up to three children to travel all day
  • NET trams offer a group ticket for £8 weekends, school holidays and Mon-Fri after 4pm or £12 during the weekday

See what's on to explore this Christmas

Preparing for Winter Weather

As November turns into December, colder weather is forecast which will see our fleet of gritting trucks take to the roads.

We grit 445km of road every wintery night, keeping major routes and access to hospitals, schools and other essential services clear.

We're pressing pause on roadworks as we go into the busiest time of the year for traffic

roadworks

Did you know - we hit pause on all non-essential roadworks from 24 November and in the run up to Christmas to help #KeepNottinghamMoving.

Urgent work (such as burst pipes and gas leaks) may still occur but planned works will now wait until the new year

County Council consultation on Tram concessionary travel

Nottinghamshire County Council are currently consulting on removing free tram travel from their concessionary travel scheme.

If you live outside the city boundary, such as in Beeston, Stapleford or Toton, and use the tram with a older persons or disabled persons concessionary travel pass, you will be affected.

Nottinghamshire County Council want to hear your views in their online survey.

50 bus

Good news as the 50 service sees extended hours and new buses

Nottingham City Transport’s (NCT) Red Line 50 bus service will run later into the evenings and seven days a week thanks to the Bus Service Improvement Plan – just in time for Christmas shopping and Winter Wonderland.

Nottingham City Council has secured funding as part of the Government’s Bus Service Improvement Plan to support bus services that support communities on routes that are not commercially viable.

The 50, which currently runs from Victoria Retail Park to the city through Colwick Industrial Estate and along Daleside Road, will continue running later into the evening and run seven days a week with a new Sunday service from 3 December.

Repair works began on River Leen Greenway boardwalk from 20 November

Transforming Cities-funded works to repair the boardwalk along the River Leen, enabling the potential to upgrade the route further in future, are expected to last for six weeks.

The repairs include handrail repairs, removing tree stumps and roots obstructing the current footpath and re-surfacing.

The route, part of National Cycle Route 6 will be closed during this period between Church Street and Wilkinson Street, as shown on the above plan.

road safety week

As Road Safety Week takes place 20 - November  with a focus on speeding, a reminder of the impact of speeding.

1 in 4 fatal crashes involve speeding and speeding related deaths are up 20% in the last year.

It's never worth risking lives to get somewhere a little faster - always stick to the speed limit or below if the conditions warrant it.
