Mayor Adams continues to scapegoat immigrants—we support and empower them!

Thanksgiving is a time many of us spend in the warmth of our homes, sharing a meal with family.

But for many new families in New York City, home is a concept that is getting harder and harder to imagine. Earlier this fall, New York City announced it will limit shelter stays for immigrant families with children to 60 days ([link removed]) and 30 days ([link removed]) for single adult men as asylum seekers.

The Adams administration even went so far as stating that it would start issuing tents ([link removed]) to newly arrived asylum seekers, instead of offering shelter placements. As our city enters the winter months, what the Adams Administration is doing is nothing less than cruel.

The New York Immigration Coalition is fighting for the dignity and respect of all immigrants, advancing policy reforms at the city, state and federal levels but also helping our new neighbors secure the resources they need to get on a pathway to stability and self-sufficiency, including:
* Submitting 1,700 work authorization applications for asylum seekers in a 10 day legal clinic blitz in NYC, with the help of the city, state, and federal governments.
* Hosting legal clinics across the upstate New York regions for a four week sprint with our members and partners, where we were able to file Venezuelan Temporary Protected Status applications for every eligible person in the hotel shelters outside of NYC, in partnership with the Office of New Americans.
* Organizing pop-up resource fairs across the five boroughs of New York City and select upstate regions, with the support from the NYC Council and the Office of New Americans, where we provide critical resources for all low-income immigrant New Yorkers in need. In the last year, we have held more than 50 pop-up events, reaching thousands of immigrant New Yorkers, speaking dozens of languages.

Our work isn’t over. If we are going to continue to support immigrants to build their lives and thrive in New York, |*FNAME|, we need your help. Will you help fuel our fight to welcome new arrivals?

None of our work would have been possible without your support—thank you!

We wish you a happy Thanksgiving!
