Greetings CDT friends and supporters:
We are delighted to share with you the exciting news that the CDT Board of Directors has selected Alexandra Reeve Givens as the organization’s new President and CEO.
This is a pivotal time for the internet, and for ensuring that democracy and individual rights are at the center of the digital revolution. With Alex’s energy and vision, we are confident that CDT will be well-positioned as a leader in shaping the future of online life.
Alex is the founding Executive Director of the Institute for Technology Law & Policy at Georgetown Law, which she has helped build into a leading forum, training ground, and research institute in Washington, D.C. for policymakers, academics, and technologists exploring the most pressing issues in technology law today.
Prior to joining Georgetown, Alex served as Chief Counsel for IP and Antitrust to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary. There, she developed legislative strategy on issues including patent reform, net neutrality, the First Amendment and online speech, access to medicines, and mergers and antitrust policy. Alex has also served as a policy advisor for a Senate campaign, as a litigator at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York, and as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia Law School. She received her Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School and her Bachelor of Arts from Yale University.
Alex serves as a Board member of BEACON: The DC Women Founders initiative, an organization she co-founded that focuses on improving opportunities and resources for diverse women entrepreneurs in the D.C. area. She is also the Vice-Chair of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, the leading foundation for paralysis and spinal cord injury.
Alex’s selection as the incoming President & CEO followed an exhaustive search, and we were grateful to attract extremely talented candidates from many quarters.
Alex will begin her new role in May. She’s looking forward to meeting and spending time with all of you.
In the meantime, please join us in welcoming Alex, and please consider sharing this exciting news with your networks.
Thank you for your ongoing support of CDT!
Best regards,
William S. Bernstein
