Dear John,

Parents, this email is intended for your eyes only.

We bring you this heart-breaking news story to inform you so that you may be aware and better equipped to protect your children and grandchildren.

Wisconsin schools, gender-neutral bathrooms and now sexual assault.

We have said for years that gender-neutral bathrooms were a HORRIBLE idea and would lead to sexual assaults.

Now it’s happening in a local Wisconsin school.

Just over a week ago, an 18-year-old male student at Rhinelander High School was arrested for fourth-degree sexual assault, child enticement and indecent exposure to a child in the restroom. The male student arrested was released on bond and is set to return to court in April.

A fourth-degree sexual assault is defined as “sexual contact with a person without the consent of that person."  Media reports have not yet identified the sex of the student victim, but the child is likely a girl.

Our schools should be safe places to learn and grow, but this was not the case for this student who became a victim of sexual assault last week.

What made the assault easy and the victim so vulnerable?  A gender-neutral bathroom, made possible by LGBTQ agenda-promoting elected officials and authorities who pass laws, policies or ordinances allowing this.

This is yet another reminder that elections have consequences.

Who we vote for in elections--even for school board--can directly impact laws that promote or restrict gender-neutral bathrooms, showers and other facilities where boys and girls, OR men and women, both use these private spaces. Our elected officials can prevent dangerous situations like these from happening – but it all comes down to who we elect and what they stand for and value. The issue at hand could very likely end up before our Wisconsin Supreme Court at some point. It seems inevitable based on how this is all playing out.

It is reported that Captain Terri Hook from the Sheriff's office where the incident occurred said the gender-neutral bathroom has now been closed. (I’m sure this is little consolation to the victim and his/her family now.)

Friends, this should never have been allowed to happen. It could have been prevented. How would we feel if this happened to our own child or grandchild?

And, what is truly scary, is that one of our children could be next if there are gender-neutral bathrooms in their school, or locker-rooms, or public changing areas…

It was also reported that the school hadn’t sent a message to parents.

Having been a teacher, a private school administrator, and a member of a Wisconsin school board, I believe this was unconscionable, arrogant and irresponsible.

Parents of students in the school should have been informed, because regardless of what liberal opponents to parental rights say, it is the primary responsibility of PARENTS to protect, nurture, train and raise children who are entrusted to them by God. Parents deserve to know about what is happening in school that could put their children at risk or in danger.

For years we have been warning elected officials and authorities, as well as parents, that this could, and likely would, happen.  With human nature what it is, it was only a matter of time. And whether or not this is the first incident of its kind in a school or not, we really have no way of knowing. This is the first one that has made the news in our state; we suspect other incidents have happened and been kept quiet.

In 2017, the conservative national organization, Family Research Council,
compiled a list of 21 incidents of men assaulting or violating women's privacy in public bathrooms. They warned that nondiscrimination laws that allow people to go into bathrooms based on their gender identity, rather than their birth sex, are giving sexual predators the opportunity to exploit the circumstances and commit voyeurism and sexual assault.

What you can do:

  1. PRAY for this victim and his/her family; for the male student charged; for the safety of all students in our public schools; and finally, for the elected officials and authorities who either pass laws, policies or ordinances or allow these dangerous situations to occur.

  2. VOTE and get involved in promoting candidates who share our values and understand the need to protect our children, our families, parental rights, the unborn, and our religious liberty today. We are actively involved in the April 7th election and need your help now.  For information about opportunities to get involved, visit our special new election resource website HERE.

  3. INVEST securely online. Multiply the effectiveness of your one voice by supporting WFA or WFC, empowering us to continue this important work, as your voice for your values. As the only state-wide organization of its kind, we rely on the gifts/investments by people like you who share our pro-family values.

  4. Talk with your children about what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior in school and other public places. Keep the lines of communication open with your children so they feel comfortable telling you about circumstances which may concern them. Be proactive as a parent, aware of policies in your children’s school, and if you have concerns for their safety, contact us or another pro-family organization to find out about your rights as parents.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Having to report this horrible situation to you was very difficult for me, but I would have been derelict in my duties if I had ignored it.

As God declared through the prophet Hosea, “My people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge.”  Hosea 4:6.

My heart goes out to the student victim and her/his family. This was a painful reminder that we should all pray daily for the protection of our children these days.

For our families,

Julaine K. Appling
President

PS:  Here’s one of the stark realities about this situation: Wisconsin Family Action, and our sister organization Wisconsin Family Council, are the only statewide pro-family organizations of its kind on the front lines especially on issues like this, informing citizens and parents and working in advance to prevent them.
Our mission is to advance Judeo-Christian principles and values in Wisconsin by strengthening, preserving, and promoting marriage, family, life and religious liberty.  Please consider being a partner with us in this mission.

We do this by informing you as a citizen about important cultural issues (LIKE THIS) and legislative issues or candidates’ positions that directly affect families, children, marriage, life and religious liberty.

Thank you for your consideration!
