Dear John,
We wanted to send a brief reminder that our general meeting, usually held on the fourth Wednesday of each month, will instead be held next week on 11/29. Please RSVP for in-person or online if you plan to attend.
Elections are still underway for our new Steering Committee. Click here to apply to run for office. You must be a member in good standing. If you’re thinking of running, there’s a leadership intensive on December 2-3 that would help sharpen your leadership skills. You can register for that here.
Akron City Council passed a resolution in support of Palestine during Monday’s council meeting. Unfortunately, it’s too “both sides” in its language and contains some Zionist talking points, but there are still a number of key points worth celebrating — the resolution calls for a ceasefire, acknowledges the mass death and displacement of Palestinian caused by Israel, and supports Palestinian self-determination. You can read the full text of the resolution here. This resolution likely only exists because of the time and effort of community members speaking during public comment and contacting councilors. Please continue to put pressure on lawmakers to support a ceasefire. Resources to support Palestine can be found here.
While we’re on the topic of colonizers, we hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Though the holiday’s origins are problematic, it’s always worth spending time with family and friends, and we hope you get some rest and/or holiday pay — whichever you prefer.
In solidarity,
Akron DSA
