Meeting

Community safety discussion

Meadows residents came together to discuss public services, review ideas for improved facilities and make new proposals.

  • Community Safety - targeting anti-social behaviour and drug dealing Inspector Dalby reported on recent successes in operations against houses being used for drug dealing.
  • Green Meadows are helping people reduce their fuel bills. Residents asked for tree stumps to be removed and replaced with new trees, especially those that can provide fruit and nuts.
  • Possible Play Zone - Graham Moran introduced a new opportunity for a play zone similar to a multi-use games area, to be provided in The Meadows, funded by the Football Foundation.
  • Youth services - Top priority is to renew the Meadows Youth Centre, for which a bid can be submitted in April 2024 as well as finding the right partnership to run the facility.
  • Parks - Parks reported that construction to the paddling and splash facility proposed for The Embankment is due to start in January. Finishing works for the Memorial Gardens are to be completed in the summer.

Grants were made to 14 of the community groups who attended the ward priorities consultation.

Streets for People programme making good progress

Bunbury Street

Over 135 resurfacing schemes have been completed so far across the city.

In 2021, the council successfully bid as part of a competitive process for money from the Government’s Levelling Up fund to improve streets and local town centres, and make walking and cycling easier and safer.

Nottingham City Council has approved ÂŁ11million of improvements to make our neighbourhoods greener, safer, better places to get around. The east end of Bunbury Street is the latest stretch of road to be re-surfaced through the 'Streets for People' project. Work is due to be completed in March 2024.

We are also setting money aside for tree work and bin replacements. You can find out more by visiting the streets for people website.

Would you recognise the signs of gambling harm?

Gambling

Gambling can affect physical and mental health, damage relationships and leave people feeling lonely and isolated. It can also cause problems with employment, education, housing and lead to serious debt.

Gambling-related harm is under-recognised and often hidden. Many people being harmed by gambling don’t see themselves as a person with a problem and don’t recognise the issues it’s causing. When people do recognise they may have a problem, it can be hard to talk about it, or to reach out for help because of guilt, shame or worry.

If you notice that you, or someone you know is feeling stressed, anxious, thinking about gambling a lot of the time, or hiding their gambling from others, it could be a sign of gambling harm.

Become a foster carer

fostering

You can make difference for children in Nottingham by becoming a foster carer. The number of children in care in Nottingham is at a record high and we need more carers to provide children with a safe, secure and loving home. A home where they can thrive, grow and reach their potential.

Fostering is looking after a child when they can’t live with their own family. This can be for a couple of days, a few months, or many years. The children come from a range of different cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.

As a foster carer with Nottingham City Council you will get a weekly allowance. The allowance varies according to the child’s age and number of children you foster.
