Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald
Good afternoon, and happy early Thanksgiving!
I hope many of you have the opportunity to gather with friends and family this week for the holiday.
I’m back in SE Wisconsin this week traveling across the district to hold office hours and meet with members of the community. Today, I’ll spend time with the Waukesha community as we remember those who were tragically killed 2 years ago in a devastating attack on the Christmas parade.
This is a day we will never forget, and my heart is with the friends and families of the victims today.
Keep reading below to hear about how I will be honoring the Waukesha Parade Attack victims today and other happenings in the district.
Have a great week!
- Scott
Remembering those Lost on the 2nd Anniversary of the Waukesha Christmas Parade Attack
It’s been two years since the devastating attack took place on the Waukesha Christmas Parade, but the grief of losing six innocent people is still just as painful for our community.
Today, I led the entire Wisconsin House delegation in re-introducing a bipartisan House Resolution to honor the victims of the devastating attack on the Waukesha Christmas Parade in 2021.
I thank my colleagues for joining me again this year in honoring Virginia Sorenson, Tamara Durand, LeAnna Owen, Jane Kulich, Wilhelm Hospel, and Jackson Sparks. This is a day we will never forget.
This evening, I’ll join the Waukesha Community for the unveiling of the Parade Memorial on Main Street and Grede Park. On this second anniversary, we remember and cherish the spirits of those no longer with us and pray for healing and peace for their families.
Service Academy Interview Day
Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to meet with the phenomonal group of candidates seeking nominations to our nation’s military academies.
My message to these students: be proud of yourself for this noble journey. This is an application process like no other, so to make it this far in the process is an accomplishment in and of itself.
It is truly extraordinary to see these young men and women show this level of focus and loyalty to the mission of our armed services. No matter the outcome of this process, I hope each and every one of them finds their own purpose to serve this great country.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the board members and their expertise. These individuals are taking time out of their personal schedules to to help evaluate the future leaders of our country.
I am so appreciative of their work and time.
Overall, it was a successful day, and I was proud to see such a vibrant and intelligent group of students ready to represent SE Wisconsin and serve our country.
Office Hours in Delafield Today
It was great to be in Delafield today for office hours! I had a chance to meet members of the community and discuss issues important to them.
My Statement on the Extension of Government Funding
Last week, I voted to support Speaker Johnson’s two-step CR plan today.
The Republican House inherited a budgetary mess from Democrats, and turning this ship around is well underway. We’ve worked hard to put the country back on track through proposals like the Fiscal Responsibility Act and passing appropriations bills that cut spending. In fact, every single appropriations bill that House Republicans have passed thus far CUT spending significantly from previous levels.
Although we have passed many conservative appropriations bills that cut spending, the new Speaker needs more time to negotiate spending bills with the Senate and White House without the government being shut down.
Also, by passing the CR, Speaker Johnson and House Republicans eliminate the possibility of Senate Democrats sending a $100 billion supplemental monstrosity over to the House at the end of the year. This two-step plan keeps House Republicans ahead of Senate Democrats and in control of our plan to cut spending.
I am hopeful that under the Speaker’s leadership and plan, we will finally change the status quo and move toward a more efficient and transparent appropriations process.
