Our country has endured nearly a half-century of escalating attacks on reproductive rights, driven by right-wing extremists and cynical Republican leadership looking to score political points.

And the only thing that's kept them in check is the strength of our progressive movement. That's all on the line this year.

This past month, Republicans in the Senate introduced two disgraceful bills attacking reproductive rights. If they'd passed, they would have deprived Americans - disproportionately low-income women, people of color, and women in rural areas - of the right to control their own bodies.

It seems like the GOP's new agenda is a Republican in every exam room with a woman and her doctor.

We defeated them this time, and the bills went nowhere.

But this won't be the last time extreme right-wing Senate Republicans try to take away every woman's autonomy over their own body. Even in defeat, Lindsey Graham vowed that anti-choice bills "will continue to be advanced until they pass."

I will always - always - defend reproductive freedom and the right of every American to make choices about their health care in consultation with their doctor, not the government.
