Louisiana Environmental Justice Groups Oppose $6 Million Subsidy for Koch Methanol Plant Expansion

This week, we broke the story on how a Louisiana parish approved giving Koch Industries a multi-million dollar tax break on its expansion of its local methanol plant. The expansion will allow production to increase by 25%, which comes at the cost of significantly increased emissions of greenhouse gas and particulates. Local environmental justice groups have spoken out against the new tax break, pointing out that the plant has not delivered on the benefits promised to the community and instead exacerbates the impacts of climate change and obstructs local traffic with its freight trains.

We covered the latest funding from the dark money ATM DonorsTrust. Read the full story here.

We covered a new report by Greenpeace USA which details the widespread coordination between the public and private sectors to monitor activism, punish protesters both physically and legally, and grease the wheels for proposed anti-protest bills that criminalize civil disobedience. You can read the full article here. Our article on the report was picked up by Truthout.

CMD acquired new documents from a special meeting of ALEC’s Task Force on Federalism & International Relations and Homeland Security, which took place at the end of October. The meeting was expedited and held out of schedule so that it could vote on its Resolution to Affirm Support for Israel and to Condemn Hamas, sponsored by Rep. Tan Parker (R-TX).
