We're saying thanks to abortion providers today. Will you join us?

I have been defending reproductive rights for more than two decades and I can tell you that people who provide abortion care are among the most compassionate and dedicated one could ever meet.

They are subject to harassment, intimidation, threats of going to jail – and even violence. But remarkably, they continue to provide high-quality and compassionate abortion care to their patients, day in and day out. They do this because they are deeply committed to ensuring that their patients can get care that is essential to their lives.

Today is National Abortion Providers Appreciation Day. As a very small token of gratitude, we sent some of the abortion providers we represent a thank you note and an ACLU "Abortion is a Right" pin.

But abortion providers should hear from all of us. Will you take a moment to sign our thank you note to the doctors, nurses, and staff who make abortion access real? <[link removed]>

Anti-abortion politicians have been working overtime to make it harder and harder for abortion providers to care for their patients. For years they have been passing medically unnecessary TRAP laws that make it all but impossible for abortion providers to keep their doors open. And now, they've started passing laws that ban abortion and threaten providers with jail time for providing abortion care.

They face harassment, intimidation, and threats from abortion opponents every day.

Yet abortion providers continue to do their jobs against all odds. And many of them go beyond that and work with us to preserve our right to abortion care outside their health centers. They serve as plaintiffs and experts in lawsuits challenging abortion restrictions, they testify before Congress and their state legislatures, and they speak out against laws that make it harder for people to get the care they need.

They do all of this to ensure that every patient deserves access to abortion care, regardless of where they live or how much money they have.

Without abortion providers, none of us could exercise this constitutional right. I hope you'll take a moment today to join us and say thanks. <[link removed]>
