John, As a successful business owner, I understand that no entity can continue to spend more than it earns and one of the reasons I am running to be your City Council Member is because I am scared of our financial outlook. I am committed to using my voice to expose our city's reckless spending and, with your support, ensure that the Houston we know and love can continue to thrive for generations to come. I am the only candidate in this race that has business experience. I’ve started and operated restaurants. I started, owned, and managed a real estate brokerage. I own multiple beverage businesses. I’ve built buildings from the ground up, developed, and fought many city and county entities to get permits. I’ve used multiple contractors in commercial projects and have represented multiple contractors and developers trying to do business when stymied by local government and the Corps of Engineers. I’ve owned and operated apartments, office buildings, and hotels. I have represented in litigation hundreds of businesses, from apartment owners, restaurant owners, and retail entities to commercial real estate interests; and almost every kind of business you can fathom. Under Mayor Turner and the current City Council, including Mary Nan Huffman, Houston has embarked on a path of fiscal irresponsibility, accumulating a staggering $14 billion debt burden. This unsustainable spending trajectory, coupled with an excessive reliance on one-time federal payments and a disregard for long-term financial planning, highlights the urgent need for a prudent and conservative voice on city council to safeguard Houston's economic future. The city's shortsighted approach to financial management, evident in its reliance on one-time federal payments and deferral of critical expenditures like firefighter pay, road maintenance, and aging water infrastructure, demonstrates a disregard for the well-being of future generations. These practices, akin to robbing Peter to pay Paul, leave future taxpayers to shoulder the burden of today's reckless spending. The severity of the situation has prompted the Greater Houston Partnership to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the city's finances, revealing an unsustainable structural deficit. Houston urgently requires a fiscally responsible leader on the city council who prioritizes sound financial management, advocates for taxpayer interests, and steers the city toward a sustainable economic future. District G will be used to rob Peter to pay Paul once the new administration is sworn in, and based on her record, my opponent will not speak up for District G. In her short time on council, she has only spoken or tagged a few items of thousands at the Council Meetings and. very rarely speaks out on any issues. I promise I will stand up for our District and get the money we deserve to reduce crime, fix our streets, and improve our parks. It's time for a change. We need a council member who understands the value of hard-earned dollars and the importance of responsible spending. I'm not just running for a seat; I'm running to safeguard our city's future. With your support, we can redirect Houston's course toward stability and prosperity. Let's make our voices heard for a financially sound Houston. Vote for accountability, vote for a brighter future. See you at the polls, |
