My Upcoming Virtual Town Hall on the Youth Mental Health Epidemic

At 12:30pm CT on Monday, December 4^th, I will be hosting a virtual town hall with local experts on the ongoing youth mental health epidemic, how best to address it, and what steps parents, health care professionals, and policymakers can take to help those in need. Following the onset of the pandemic, awareness to do more to address America’s mental health crisis, particularly in teens and young people, has risen, but there is still more to be done at all levels, particularly as we confront the related substance abuse challenges facing our nation. The Critical Meeting Between President Joe Biden and Chairman Xi Jinping

Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi joins CBS’s Face the Nation to discuss the future of America’s relationship with the People’s Republic of China. (Click the image above to watch the full interview.)

On Sunday, in my capacity as Ranking Member of the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), I joined Chairman Mike Gallagher on CBS’s Face the Nation to discuss the significance of the meeting between President Joe Biden and Chairman Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit. Overall, I believe that this meeting produced encouraging potential steps forward on key issues, including restarting military-to-military communications that will reduce the risk of conflict, as well as an initial agreement for the PRC to expand its efforts to crack down on the production and export of chemicals used to make fentanyl, a significant source that fuels the fentanyl epidemic we face here in our country.

However, even beyond ensuring that the Xi follows through on these commitments, significant work remains. The U.S. must continue to hold the CCP accountable on issues like the human rights abuses against those in Tibet, Hong Kong, and mainland China, as well as its ongoing genocide of the Uyghur people. Further, we must continue to show our support for the security of Taiwan’s democracy as we counter broader CCP aggression across the Indo-Pacific region. Finally, I am committed to our ongoing efforts of combatting the CCP’s unfair trade practices on behalf of American businesses and workers, as Beijing continues deliberate attempts to undercut our economy and our workers while stealing billions of dollars’ worth of American intellectual property. The meeting between President Biden and Chairman Xi was an important first step towards reducing the risk of conflict and tacking issues like the ongoing fentanyl epidemic, and I hope future discussions will continue to address the work that remains.
